Islanders are an almost perfect fit for Duchene. Good management, great coach and a really good young roster.

The only other great fit is Colorado. They have no secondary scoring and have struggled despite having the likely best line in hockey. But, that won't happen.

- spatso

Yeah I highly doubt that happens🤣

I don't see Duchene going back to Colorado, plus I think Colorado fills that secondary scoring with either Hughes or Kakko at the draft.

8 years and $76M sounds fair to me. ($9.5M / year)

NJ would be glad to give him that and play along side Hall

Rangers need a #1 center. I am not saying they are trading for him but I would make
a strong free agent offer

Matt Duchene is having a good year but he is not worth 8 million for 8 years... Good luck with that. Could be one of the more overrated players in the league.

Kid has been in the league for 10 years and has 8 total playoff games under his belt. Swept both times.

Johnny Gaudreau is making 6.75 and is a much better player.

The Sens will ask for that BUT ... they could more likely end up with
2019 1st round pick
Ho Sang
Bellows
2020 2nd round pick or a 1st round pick if he extends.
Even that is a solid pkg.

- bruinzfan77

For a team that had a bad locker room last season, I don't think the Sens would be looking for a player like Ho Sang. Kid has an attitude problem.

he will leave it

The Sens are a dumpster fire thanks to ownership
Other teams could offer more
the taxes in canada are higher than the US
He could sign in TX or FL and pay zero state income tax

Because he likes the idea of eventually playing in Quebec?

I don’t think Duchene is elite though I think he’s a good player. You’re comparing him and his maybe contract to a left wing and you’re also throwing out contract numbers from three years ago as compared to now while blaming Duchene for his teams playoff mishaps. Just a bit unusual.

Good point. Sebastian Ajo the D might be a better fit but not likely the Isles want to part with him. Ho Sang is an easy throw in.
Sens can flip him right away.

Every player could aspire to play for Tampa, Dallas or Florida. On the other hand, the highest taxes are in New York and California.

All players pay the taxes for each game they play in every arena. So, for example, when a visiting Florida player plays in Madison Square Gardens he is obliged to pay NY State and City levies. Dallas players pay no state income tax on their 41 home games. But they pay the appropriate state or provincial taxes for every game they play on the road. I believe the income earned for each date is computed at 1/82 of their annual income.

I didn't realize that FLA/TBL/DAL don't have a say in the matter

I was merely responding to someone who said he could sign in Texas and Florida and not pay state taxes. As you point out, it is much more complicated.

I think he might take it . I know he said that he left the Avs because he wanted to be in a winner , but I am more inclined to believe that he wanted to be the number one . Ottawa might be the only team where he would be that .

What an embarrassment. Duchene is worth $9M per easy. He's basically been a point per game player since he's been here in Ottawa.

I'm @^$%*@^ sick to @#%%@!^ death of this organization low-balling it's core players, and then acting like the players are disloyal.

Personally, I'd have given Karlsson a blank cheque. And I'd pretty much do the same for both Duchene and Stone. Unfortunately this team is a mess. And the only way anyone in ownership and management will ever wake up is when it really hits bottom. For this reason, and this reason only, I pray Duchene, Stone, and Dzingel all tell Dorion and Melnyk to shove it.

This franchise should be ASHAMED! EMBARRASSING!!!!

Signed,
Angry and fed up Sens fan.

P.s.
What's the housing market like in Winnipeg or Calgary?

Starts with Wahlstrom/Dobson (one or the other) and a 1st. Add a conditional asset or two if he re-signs.
- sensarmy_11

No shot you get Wahlstrom or Dobson. Maybe Bellows, Ho-Sang, Aho. Perhaps Wilde or Soderstrom. Definitely our #1 pick this year. But he’s a pending free agent. You will not be getting full value for him

I agree except that Duchene is worth $8-9 somewhere. Draisaitl gets $8.5 and likely has a higher points per game.

Bellows or Aho plus picks is a solid trade.
