I actually think Duchene makes sense for the NYI
- Glak18

I agree I’m just curious what we would have to give up for a signed Duchene in this made up deal?

Good question. Would a sign and trade be likely at this point, we don't see it too often.

Would the Isles be interested in trading for him as a rental, and taking the chance on singing him down the road?

I doubt they trade for him without a deal in place after losing Tavares for nothing. Just my opinion who knows though Lameriello is unpredictable.

Everyone, literally EVERYONE, says it was Ottawa’s first offer. EK is the only person saying it’s a “take it or leave it offer”. Friedman, Dreger, Mackenzie, etc all day it’s a starting point of negotiations.......but sure, let’s believe EK. Hahahahaha

Eklund knows how reactionary hockey fans are. It's his bread and butter for clickbait. Here's to hoping Duchene and Stone stay put. By the way, you're welcome with Nilsson.

I hope the Isles get him... They'll be a solid solid team for years with trotz and Lamoriello at the helm... hopefully they win a few cups and show all the losers that you don't mess with Uncle Lou...

He should accept but he wont because he wants to win a cup and Ottawa is not the place at the moment.

Ottawa management would be highly distressed if Duchene crossed them up and accepted the offer. They have their plan and it is based on a full and comprehensive rebuild over the next few years. Karlsson and Hoffman were first to go. Duchene, Stone, Dzingle, Ceci and Anderson will likely be moved in the next 4 weeks.

This is the MBA rebuild strategy. It also involves a full recapitalization and new ownership structure as well as making the Sens the jewell in LeBreton redevelopment. As crazy as it sounds there is reason for becoming hopeful. Signs that they are finally beginning to move in the right direction. Any decision that removes Melnyk out of the daily life of the team will be good cause for celebration.

Everytime I go see a game live Duchesne impresses me more and more. He is the 1C the Sens have been looking for and need. He will easily get 9 million on the open market and the Sens should pay that.

The reason they won't? Eugene cannot afford to front load the contract with the signing bonuses that players are demanding and getting these days. This is especially the reason why the Sens cannot keep both Stone and Duchesne - does anyone realistically see Melnyk having the 30 million to give to both of them over the first two years of their contracts?

They should keep Duchene over Stone but they won't.

All that really matters is whether he likes living in Ottawa. Pretty much every team has enough talent these days, that if everything clicks, they can be contenders. The Avs were historically bad a couple years ago, and have been really close to contenders the last few. The Islanders were supposed to be a tire fire this year, yet are leading the division, and it's almost the all-star break.

Things change way too quickly to base the next decade of your career on how your team is currently doing.

I agree. I don't think a deal is finalized until Lamorillo is assured that he can sign him to a long term deal. Islanders have a nice young team and they have some really solid prospects. With a centre like Duchene they can probably consolidate their position at the top of the standings for multiple years.

Ive been very pleasantly surprised with him. He’s been really solid. Hope they can buy out condos and give Nilsson a one year deal.

People don't seem to grasp that the Senators have no intention of resigning Duchene. Before the season started Melnyk had a press conference to discuss "the rebuild." He said up to 15 new players would added from the on-ice season ending roster (June 2018).

Adding 15 new players is a positive message. But, in order to add 15, you need to move 15.

Starts with Wahlstrom/Dobson (one or the other) and a 1st. Add a conditional asset or two if he re-signs.

Just stop posting dude, and stop pretending like you have a clue what’s going on with this team.......I’d say it’s getting embarrassing but you passed that line like 3 years ago.

You’re like EK........you throw all this poop against the wall and like 0.04% of it is actually true.

No way he takes lower money to stay on a team he's not wild about being on to begin with.

The Sens will ask for that BUT ... they could more likely end up with
2019 1st round pick
Ho Sang
Bellows
2020 2nd round pick or a 1st round pick if he extends.
Even that is a solid pkg.

He clearly won't get traded to a team that can afford to keep him.

It just makes sense to me, but I think if there's any truth to Panarin only wanting to go to the Rangers, I could see them going hard after Duchene.

I think why they have set a two week hard deadline for getting it done is to allow a new team to negotiate a long term deal with Duchene. The Islanders are in a great cap situation. They apparently offered Tavares more $000 than the Leafs. They have some really nice players. I think they go all in and go over $10m for Duchene. We will see.

For a guy thats a pending UFA and an alleged broke owner, why would Melnyck authorize this when Stone is much better and PROVEN in the playoffs. And if youre Duchene, why re sign with Ottawa?

If Ottawa moves Duchene, really good chance they also move Stone.

The Sens are in full crash mode.

Everyone laughed when Melnyk suggested the Sens were going to change up to 15 players from last year's roster. I believe they may be ahead of schedule.

I believe there was a list of teams and the islanders were also on that list. Love to have Panarin but I think Duchene fills a bigger need for the islanders.

Islanders are an almost perfect fit for Duchene. Good management, great coach and a really good young roster.

The only other great fit is Colorado. They have no secondary scoring and have struggled despite having the likely best line in hockey. But, that won't happen.

Nothing, wait for offseason....give Ottawa what they deserve, nothing.
