Not sure if mentioned here, but John Scott apparently nearly drowned after falling through the ice on a frozen lake.
Chris Kuc posted an article about it.
Apparently he was shoveling off the rink on the lake and just went through. - breadbag
Hockey players must play on the ice. They get in big trouble when they are in water.
All kidding aside, that’s not a good thing for Scott. He is fortunate to survive. I went through the ice on the Chicago river up in forest glen as a youth. Not a pleasant experience. When my buddies pulled me out, I ran home, threw my gear in the dryer, and ran back to the game (on a better piece of ice) after one drying cycle.

I haven't been in that situation, but imagine it would be difficult to get out of the water given the temperature and having hockey gear on. Glad you were okay.
I know any place with current moving under the ice can be thin, but I think the John Scott story also re-enforces the value in skating on ice that has been flooded multiple times to add layers and make it thicker. |

anybody have thoughts on a fantasy trade from JJ Kane to Avs for first round pick OTT and prospect Makar and Tysone Barrie - Count Caggula
yeah, but they aren't suitable for this site. Guy has been trying to trade Kane for years. |

Good point. It does happen to everyone. Even look at the game the other day. Kane coughed up the puck on the half boards on the PP and Gus made a solid defensive play to bail him out. You can't look at that play and say Kane sucks at handling the puck and Gus is a defensive specialist. - breadbag
I was going to say... Bergeron did the exact same thing to Panarin his first year with the Hawks (although he stole the puck in the neutral zone when Panarin tried to skate around/through him). |

Bergeron is as close to Hossa as you might find in the league today. Agreed that the Bergeron-Kampf play was like a man playing in a child’s game. - Spec41971
NO! Bergeron has no where near the skating ability of Hossa. He is a very good two way player but he isnt in the Hossa category. |

Seriously. I'm not advocating for it, but if you are trading Kane, the biggest name coming back ought to be much better than Barrie. |

I hopped over to The-Rink, it was Aaron Goldschmidt's article, not JJ. I won't deny, he was trying to trade Kane, I was a lurker back when he was proposing a trade for Miller. |

My point in saying he is as close to Hossa as you will fine today illustrates just how good Hossa was. I did not say Bergeron was Hossa’s equal. There are none of those in the league.

Good choice of words. I actually enjoy the angst— it shows people care.
This board would be extremely boring if everyone came on with the same opinion. We are stronger for these differences. |

Hockey gear back then for us was gloves, shin pads and skates, with the skates hooked over the wooden sticks when we walked to the rinks. The winter jackets we had to wear in the cold acted like the other pads. |

I would love to hear a realistic trade offer for Patrick Kane that makes the Blackhawks a better team. Kane is the 2nd best RW in the NHL today behind Kucherov, with no signs of slowing down as he is having a Career-Best scoring pace on the league's worst team.
Maybe you get one top 6 forward PROSPECT, 3rd line forward, and a mid-late first round pick. You lose your offensive catalyst, #1 line driving PPG goal creator (scoring + playmaking) for some above average middle 6 guys and a low probability lottery ticket.
IMO, nobody is giving you a top 3 draft pick, top pair dman, or true top 20 NHL forward for 30yr old kane at $10.5mil. The on-ice hit would be huge, but the marketing/fan base reaction would be catastrophic. Casual fans...goodbye. New fans from the 2010-2015 run....good luck keeping them. season ticket holders....we've already seen that trend and as NBC says every time the Hawks play, "Patrick Kane alone is worth the price of admission."
Patrick Kane will retire a Blackhawk, BOOK IT! |

Agree that it is super unlikely he would be actually moved. I think the same for Toews. They are faces of the franchise and the casual fans want to see them playing for the Hawks.

Yeah, same for me. I grew up in a rural farming community with an outdoor rink behind my house. Most of us just with skates, stick, gloves and puck. |

You may be right, Kane may retire a Blackhawk.
However what Kane does playing for the Hawks from here on will be irrelevant for the team. They will not win another cup or be cup contenders while Kane is actively playing in the NHL. Kane's (Toews, Keith ect.) best value to the Blackhawks is no longer as a player but as a commodity to be moved for futures, prospects or draft picks. Perhaps theose futures won't be as good as Kane but if the Hawks do become contender in the next few years they have a much better chance being part of that team than Kane.
As fans it's hard to let go of our "heros" but the Kanes, Toews, Seabrooks, Keiths, Hossas ect. are more valuable to bring back futures, assuming there's a market for them, than they are as Blackhawk players. |

I would respectfully disagree. All signs point to Patrick Kane being a Top Line RW for the entire duration of his career. Trading Kane creates a hole that cannot be filled easily. Of course there is the possibility that Chiarelli trades you Nurse, Hopkins, and Draisaitl for Kane, but barring a trade of similar nature....I just don't see how you can "rob peter to pay paul" in a sense. With Toews, Seabrook and Keith...their on-ice conributions are MUCH more easily replicated/replaced, especially as they continue to age and their playing style is not sustainable.
A perimeter, offense only high skill, high IQ player like Kane....look no further than Marty St. Louis as a most recent example of a small (he's even smaller than kane) skill winger that was a Top line producer on a playoff contender at age THIRTY EIGHT!!
Again, there is always a possibility that a miracle trade comes to fruition that provides top line quantity to balance the loss of the All-Word quality Kane currently, and will continue to provide the Hawks. I just don't see it as a realistic possibility. Again, not even mentioning the fallout within the fanbase....
