So less Gustafsson and more TVR.
- Chunk

Yes, one way to put it. Krys is a more superior skater than TVR, though.

A question to those that pay attention to all prospects and not just the Hawks':

What happened to Oliver Wahlstrom this year? Is it just a matter of playing his first year in NCAA, or has he been hurt? 16 games and 7 total points this year. He was a monster last year before the draft.

- Chunk

Boston College is 7-10-2 so Wahlstrom has missed 3 games. There was a rumour in the autumn that he wanted out of the program to join the USHJL but as with most rumours nothing happened. As for his point totals there are a few theories, he was overhyped, He hasn't figured out how to take the step up to playing against men or the fact he's on a middling team is impacting his play. Give him a season and see what happens.

Mike Green
Not a single taker for him at the deadline last year- amazing - he’s impressive

Ryan Kessler
31 games
1 assist & zero goals
Also amazing

Jimmy Howard
Had him written off 4 years ago
Same as Green no takers at the deadline

I have no sympathy for Kessler or the Ducks for that matter. 12 L's in a row. Wow!

Hakkarainen ages out of jrs this yr and as far as I know is not committed to an NCAA team. He's centering one of the best lines in the USHL on the best team, Muskegon. Saw him New Yrs Eve live in Muskegon and the kid looked great. Seems thicker. Honest 2 way centerman with elite, for jrs, offensive skill/hands/feet/IQ. Kid has had 2-3 concussions though. that's why he has so few games played in a 60 game USHL schedule. .........

https://www.eliteprospect...221342/mikael-hakkarainen

He skates on a line with two Cossacks, a 2002 waterbug nmed Gushchin and a kid I can't see slipping past rd 2 this yr+. Remember this kid. https://www.eliteprospect...er/450909/yegor-afanasyev

Thanks for sharing the info on him. I was reading more about him a couple weeks ago trying to get a handle on where he might fit in the pecking order.

Not sure if mentioned here, but John Scott apparently nearly drowned after falling through the ice on a frozen lake.

Chris Kuc posted an article about it.

Apparently he was shoveling off the rink on the lake and just went through.

Kampf is a journeyman / 13th forward at best. And not on a contender. JC might like him but can you see him playing for Tampa, Nashville, Winnipeg or Washington and getting ice time?

And for those who think Highmore is potential - where and when? He is an undrafted junior who just missed a season of professional hockey due to injury. He won't be helping the Hawks any time soon.

- RickJ

His defensive numbers are quite good.

The offensive side isnt there yet but a bigger stronger faster more skilled version of Kruger a few years back is I think what they have here. Definitely a useful player to have around.

That is the thing though. His play on the ice had yet to match what Kruger was doing at a younger age. Sure, he is bigger a bit, but Kruger was much more effective defensively and provided just as much offensive capability on the 4th line.

And they're still in the hunt for a playoff spot after a 12 game losing streak.

Thanks Paul. All I was able to find (as I was half asleep) was that his numbers this year were notably down from his typical totals. I appreciate the additional background.

Kampf at least shows some offensive instincts, Kruger has absolutely none. I can't even count the number of times I have screamed at my TV when Kruger turns what looks like a chance at a breakaway or odd man chance into no chance or a bunch of cycling and no shot.

Remember clearly Al Arbour playing with spectacles. Obviously no contacts back then, right? Can you imagine anyone playing with eyeglasses today? Freaking suicide mission.

Early 60's here, I remember I think it was 1964, and the game of the week was on CBS, and at that time to do the game in color they had theses huge floodlights, and painted the ice dark blue. It was an afternoon game to accommodate TV, and it was warm, the old madhouse didn't have air conditioning yet, and fans were still allowed to smoke. I remember Harvey Wittenberg go on the PA, and ask the fans to please stop smoking cause the television cameras were fogging up. My dad an avid cigar smoker, took out a fresh one and lit up, as did almost everyone of age in the mezzanine section where we sat. I thought it was one of the funniest things at that time. Way to go dad.

He played OK for USA in the WJC a couple weeks ago. I think it's pretty typical for 1st year guys to need an adjustment period plus the coach usually gives the upper classmen more ice time and opportunities to put up numbers.

Sharks are fun to watch. If Jones can play above average, I like them to come out of the West. I imagine Wilson will be looking to add at the deadline too.

With you on this, and a guy I wanted Hawks to get ,Kane is playing great too
