It appears Brass has had three serious shoulder injuries, including a dislocation with surgical repair as well as a torn labrum, shoulder and surgical repair just before he came to the Pens. Dude is dinged up.

Yea and ZAR lost his jaw to Tom Wilson in the playoffs, but he is still willing to drop the gloves. That isnt a good reason to play completely disinterested. Especially in a contract year.

If that's true its another reason to add to him not getting in the zone mentally.

Even still though, when the Pens traded for him last season there were only 4 better players in the league in terms of playoff production the previous 3 or 4 season. 3 of them were Kessel, Crosby and Malkin.

Also, Before the nasty groin injury last season he had like 7 or 8 game point streak going. As far as I know he missed time this year with lower body problems, so I'm not so sure the shoulder stuff is that big of a deal.

There is words that we as a team did not treat the groin injury properly in the offseason. No surgery vs surgery... claims hes not been 100% or close.

Oh for sure I think the groin has been a major issue since the injury that cut his 7 or 8 game point streak off. I was referring to others mentioning him perhaps being damaged goods when he first arrived and that it might be due to shoulder injuries/surgeries.

I just dont see that.

EDIT: I think the whole team right down to Crosby some nights look disinterested earlier in the season. Not seeing much of that from anyone the past month to month and a half.

Different people react to recovery and rehab differently. Just because one vet gets PTSD from fireworks after killing terrorists doesn’t mean the next one does.

Disinterested wouldn't be the term I'd use with Brassard either.

I think he is a fit when he actually plays. Now I'd swap Kessel and Horny and try that out.

I'm not sure how much better Hornqvist will be than Kessel on that line. Brassard needs a goal scorer.

I actually think Brassard has played better as this streak has progressed. It appears he realized this is the best team he has ever been a part of and sucked it up.

Kessel is not a good fit here but Pearson is. Rust and Hornqvist are better matches.

You crazy AF. Kessel is a good fit anywhere.

I think he’s referring to Brassards wing, not Pittsburgh as a whole lol

For the record, despite the non favorable fancy stats, I want the 14-19-81 to stay together. I think what each player can bring complements the other and that in a bit more time they will gel. I know thats not the popular opinion around here but it seems the coaching staff are thinking this as well...Ive been wrong before and so have the coaches....hopefully not this time...

quack quack. ducks up next.

his shot totals have definitely skyrocketed but doesn't seem he's found his place yet. Reminds me a bit of the sutter situation, where even though he sucked in a lot of facets, his goal totals were a bit of a saving grace. being on pace for 27 - even despite stretches of going quiet - still is quite the production rate.

Gibson is having an MVP season, but he usually plays like ass against us for whatever reason. Should be able to get more points against a sub par skating unit that's being held together by a goalie.

How in the world is that lost point in the standings due to minutes lost calculated? I mean it makes sense to weigh losing Sidney Crosby vs Matt Cullen, but just curious about the math.

From their website:
https://www.mangameslost....equently-asked-questions/
"The Lost-ps metric attempts to determine the point shares lost due to a player’s injury. It is the difference between the expected point shares generated by the player and the actual point shares they have generated.

Lost-ps = Point Shares Expected – Point Shares Actual

Lost-ps = (PlayerPointShares/PlayerGamesPlayed) x (PlayerGamesPlayed + PlayerGamesInjured) – PlayerPointShares

Point Shares are an estimate of the number of team points in the standings contributed by each player. I use the Point Shares values posted at hockey-reference.com."

https://www.hockey-refere...m/about/point_shares.html

where

"Offensive Point Shares are credited using the following formula: (marginal goals) / (marginal goals per point)

Marginal goals is equal to (goals created) - (7 / 12) × (time on ice) × ((goals created by forwards or defensemen) / (time on ice for forwards or defensemen))

Marginal goals per point reduces to (league goals) / (league points)"

Agreed. I wish they'd go back to the Malkin, Kessel, Pearson line.

Hornie didn't practice today.....so that's not good.

Probably shouldn't have started a new paragraph there. Kessel does not fit well with Brassard. Brassard has a tendency to center the puck anytime he gets pressured. Rust and Hornqvist game is to drive the net and clean the garbage. Whereas Kessel wants to make plays or get to an open area for a shot.

Also Malkin and Crosby can create open teammates by forcing the opposition to double team them or at the very least they force defenses to cheat toward them because they can beat many players one-on-one. Brassard cannot do that.

I don’t understand the Jay Beagle iPhone 1 reference. Are people really big enough douches to make fun of someone’s phone, Or is there some kind of fancy stats joke behind this?
