I skated with Ferland in his home town of Swan River in MB. We were both at Swan Valley Stampeders camp where I made the team and he would move up to Brandon where he had a solid junior career. I think it would be cool to see him play for Pitt or sign as a FA here in the desert so I can watch him play more often.
I think his ceiling is 45-50 points and I bet he wants a ton of money, could he produce a ton on Sid or Gino’s wing? Probably. What’s it going to cost us? Rust or Simon, and a 1st plus a prospect? Anyone else wanna take a stab at it? |

No need for Ferland. Spend elsewhere. GMJR will find something better. |

I'd like Ferland on his team, but not enough to give up roster players. If Carolina wants picks and the caphit of Sheahan or JO to make it work, I'd do that, but if they're looking for a hockey trade they'll have to look elsewhere. Don't have a real interest in giving up Simon or Rust plus whatever sweater it would take. Would much rather use futures and add to our existing roster. |

I'd be fine with JO being traded but not Sheahan. I think Sheahan is better than some give him credit for here and he's cheap forward C depth. Yes, I know Pens have a lot of C's but I think he's better than Cullen or Grant. He's player that does little things, that while they wont show up in the highlights, impress me. He was some what beastly at times playing 3C with the Phil last year too. |

Sheahan is best used when he has skilled players on his line. Burying him on a line with Cullen who sucks donkey balls this season is completely misusing him. It’s like when Glendenig was strapped to his hip in a Detroit. He put up like 2 goals in a bajillion games. If they’re dead set on playing him with Cullen, might as well move him for someone else if need be. |

Article from the point hockey in MM - j.boyd919
Good article.
I find this bit interesting as I thought recently the Pens were doing the opposite.
"The shot total is still significantly up, but the amount of quality shots he faces has plummeted, particularly from the most high-danger area, the inner slot. The average shot distance has also gone up, showing he faces more and more outside shots, which are usually easier to stop." |

I actually like Sheahan a lot, but I’m with Boyde here. We’re criminally misusing him. Sheahan needs to be a C and is a pretty mediocre winger. If Sullivan is gonna refuse to use him as 4C and treat Cullen like the 13th forward he is at this point in his career, I have zero problem with using Sheahan as cap filler in a trade for a guy we’ll actually use in a productive way. |

If they'd take Sheahan or JO, I'd to it in a heartbeat. Getting another LW might be overkill, but I can't see why the Pens couldn't be deep enough to have a 4th line they can roll as often as their 3rd.

I know you don't want to take away time from the first two lines, but having two bottom lines you can deploy equally? Pretty strong IMO. |

Definitely agree with this. Sheahan has actually been playing some pretty good hockey.....even at wing. I think he's much better at center too.
It still think Brass is the guy to move. I saw him miss three passes because his stick wasn't on the ice. Even though I think Kessel needs to be with Malkin, I wouldn't mind seeing Sheahan between Pearson and Kessel for a few games since they're dead set on have the 3 stars on 3 different lines.

I wouldn't lose sleep if they traded Sheahan but I'd like to keep him. Im not so confident Cullen stays healthy and/or is a constant in the lineup come April. |

LW is really the only realistic upgrade we can make at this point, so I don’t really consider it overkill when it’s not really coming at the expense of anything else. Schultz will come back so we’re set at top 4 RD, if we acquire another LD I may hang myself, Brassard isn’t working but who do we get as a 3C? Those are super tough to find at the deadline and I’m not sure we have the amo to make it work if someone like last year’s Brassard or Stastny become available. We’re super set at RW between Kessel, Hornqvist, and Rust aka two top six and a middle six guy.
That really only leaves LW. Right now we have one top six and two middle six guys. There’s still improved depth to be have there. |

Oh I like him, but the dude has had several concussions already, is 27 years old and will only have two 20 goal seasons under his belt, one playing with Johnny Gaudreau and the other with Sebastian Aho.
As somebody else here said, unless Aho is out there bouncing pucks in the net off of Ferland's junk, he's mostly useless.
Okay hands. Okay speed. Doesn't really create anything on his own. Super physical, but gets hurt all the time as a result. |

Agree Brass sucks - sammy87
Big Game Brass certainly does not suck. He has a massive career sample size of very good. Perhaps gripping stick a bit too tight now and /or overthinking*, I'm seeing chances with some posts hit, fanned passes and what not. Things haven't gone too well for him so fair in Pittsburgh... But they will.
*might be hard to be in the zone mentally when A: you're not producing as usual and not getting near as many mins (both are somewhat related IMO) as usual and B: your name is in the media alot the past few months and you don't have total confidence and security in where your home will be in the coming weeks or months.

I’ve seen stories of guys in the doghouse becoming new men after the trade deadline passes. Hopefully that happens here because as disappointed as I am with Brassard our best option may end up being to ride him through the season. |

Yeah, I’m not a fan of Brass right now, but moving him is a mistake unless the proper replacement is secured. |
