Great job by Stolie keeping them in the game in the first and a great job by the Captain all around. Seeing a beaming Provorov after the game was the cherry on top.

Bill Meltzer: Wrap: Late Blitz Lifts Flyers to 6-2 Rout in Buffalo - bmeltzer
nice to see a rally and a few guys who'd been struggling come up big.
stolarz continued strong play. i'd go with him tomorrow. keep G at C, even if coots returns tomorrow.
didn't like getting in a 2-0 hole, and lots of loose play in their end early. need this to stop. |

Huge getting these 2 points. An afternoon tilt in western Canada tomorrow isn't looking too promising. Hopefully the confidence from today's win carries over in the 1st period tomorrow. I don't think they can overcome a 2-0 deficit early against the Jets.
I'd go with Stolarz tomorrow. They don't play again until Wednesday. |

I'd ride Stolie. He's just getting back into his groove since he missed all of last season and played sparingly this season.
I hate it but G is needed at center. We are just a better line up with him centering Jimmy vR and TK. Move Coots and Patty down. |

It doesn't take away the worst of what we've seen for the majority of the season, but at the same time, you can definitely see some of the good things this franchise can try to use to steady itself for the rest of the season, playoffs or no playoffs
I've been riding the Stolarz bus for a while now, not because I feel he was banished or forgotten or whatever, but because when you're not doing well in the standings, you need to fairly evaluate all of your assets. I have no idea if Stolarz is a short-term or long-term solution, but he needs to play.
If he gets the job done, great -- you don't have to overpay for another goaltender in-season. If he doesn't get the job done, then you know exactly what you have to do and you can move forward knowing that you at least gave your former 2nd-round pick a look and a shot -- sometimes, guys get longer looks than others. Stolarz might not have 50 games to prove himself. But at least he is giving himself a chance in the games that he is getting |

Great win but we are still sloppy in our own zone. Difference has been Stolie making stops off mistakes. |

Obviously, we got a little heated about JVR earlier, but my overarching point is this: In the four full seasons he played in Toronto, no lockout or injury, he averaged 30 goals per season. In the lockout year and the year he was hurt, he was on pace for roughly 28-30 goals.
This guy isn't some clown or a bad player. He is a pure, offensive goal-scorer, who you literally paid $35 million to come to your team.
Yes, you do need to play him with good players. No, you should not play him on the third line with Jordan Weal as his center. You could play him on the third line in Toronto with Tyler Bozak and Mitch Marner. You cannot play him on the third line in Philadelphia with Jordan Weal and Wayne Simmonds.
That's not an insult to Simmonds or Scott Laughton, but JVR needs to play with more skill than they have. It's been proven that if you play the guy with skilled players, HE WILL SCORE.
I'm not saying I would play him with Giroux all the time -- I wouldn't. They might get crushed defensively.
But all that means is that until and unless Patrick is ready to be the centerman for a scoring winger of JVR's caliber, you need to find someone to center him -- because if you even give him one the caliber of TYLER EFFING BOZAK, he will score! |

With what I saw today, I'd be sorely tempted -- I don't know that it's hyperbole to say that he got more scoring chances and good looks in the offensive zone today than he has all season, and it's not a shock that he was 1 and 1 today as a result
I'd be nervous about them defensively. I do not, repeat not, claim that JVR is a good defensive player. But at the same time, hey, maybe you ride them and see if they can outscore their weaknesses. They sure as hell did today, and Buffalo's a good team this year |

There's math out there that says you are asking for trouble by playing goalies b2b on the road, but I won't lie: I am so biased against Mr. Glass, I'd do it anyway

Leave G at center, yes JVR needs to play with skill players. I dreaded watching Simmonds and JVR together. Simmer has his spot but he is a grinder.

If Stolie wasn’t coming off a serious injury maybe. But this kid hasn’t played a lot of hockey during the last few months and asking him to get on a plane, fly to Winnipeg and start on the road against a very good Jets team with less than a 24 hour turnaround is asking a lot. I’d start Neuvirth and rest Stolie. Let the kid start the 2 games in Alberta. |

I liked his defensive awareness and play in the neutral zone. Still needs to be way more assertive in the O zone.
