There was a time when no one could imagine they would move on from Richards and it happened. We're at the same point with Wayne. - hereticpride

We have enough assets to acquire a significant player to boost team performance without sacrificing a ton in the system. I truly believe we will see a "significant" move either by TDL or at draft. We need to be prepared to lose a top player or prospect.
Homer and the new GM should be foaming at the mouth. We have NHL talent, cap space, draft picks, and highly regarded prospects. That's a position of strength in being able to make trades. If the new guy can get value for our vets (AMac, Lehtera, etc.) Then that is a win.
With our assets, I'd rather target a player like Duchene instead of a 3C. Moving Coots and/or Patty down would address that. Also get Coots off PP and more regular on PK. We have already started to see that.
Top 4 Dman. Stop gap goalie. We have assests to make this happen. - cdearth23
What do you think Ottawa would want for Duchene?

Talk is cheap so that is not really taking responsibility. Taking responsibility would be taking leadership on the ice. The real growth on this team has to happen internally. They can't trade their way out of every problem. Even if they bring in a new coach, this has to happen for this team to get to where they need to be. - MJL
So making a mistake, apologizing for it then making the same mistake over and over again...imagine that.
So taking responsibility is only proven with positive results...interesting. Responsibility is shown with leadership on the ice, according to the results that is something the team lacks, but making a trade will not solve it.
So the lesson here is...do nothing and the problems will fix themselves. That's some mighty squirrelly thinking there.

was just about to say that
seriously tho as much as this isn't a popular opinion I agree with Hextall saying this wasn't go time yet. Snider and Holmgren said they were behind his plan of patience and for me personally I am disappointed the patience ran out despite the crap end results on the ice. I don't want to see the Flyers make moves in the order of what St. Louis has done where they thought they needed to push forward and moved 2 firsts for Schenn. Is Schenn a good player, of course. he helps you in the present. but was the team in a place where such a move was going to push them forward?
Its all a moot point anymore but I was in Hextall's corner and wanted to his vision thru. I preferred to fire the coach (yes that is on Hextall) first and see if another coach could right the ship. - nastyflyergirl I agree with you. |

Already have that.
Already have that also. The Ottawa game showed both on the PK. - MJL
So the team has a system the players can execute, but the problem is the players are not executing the system...
Everyone let that sink in. |

I'm not smart enough to know. My point is, we have the necessary pieces to make it happen. Duchene is UFA this summer. We may be able to get Ottawa to deal as long as we can sign him. |

2019 1st rounder would absolutely have to be included, no way around it. Now what else has to be added? |

I am all for patience, but Hextall also admitted that the team was behind where he expected them to be. That is more telling than anything else. Why was the team behind course? That means Hextall failed at assessing the situation big time. Waiting a bit longer will never change that. - Glak18
No plan is perfect and always needs to be adjusted. Whether or not Hextall kept management apprised of the plans execution status is up for debate.
I think the work he has accomplished so far should have bought himself a little leeway. They aren't at "Go time" but I personally feel they were not that far away. |

I'd say definitely a young NHL talent...??? Sanheim. Lindblom. Prospect?
Has Duchene come out and said yes/no to staying with Sens? |

I don't think anyone can question the good Hextall did, but you can't praise someone for only 2/3 of the job. That doesn't even mean he had to win a cup to get praised. He got the team back to ground zero fixing the cap and filling the prospect pool. Let's be honest is that really that tough to do? He did great unloading some bad contracts prior to his time, but then he just sat back didn't make too many bad signings, didn't trade any picks and drafted players that have yet to make any major impact for the team.
Did he build any kind of consistent competitive team during that time? To me that is what every GM wants to do, but only the great ones find a way. |

I remember hearing the Duchene camp coming out doing the basic PR "I love Ottawa I would love to play here", but nothing has been done so the love can't be that much on either side yet. |

To be fair, the AHL and NHL are way different leagues. Performance doesn't always transition. Scoring a lot in the A doesn't mean you can do that in the NHL, which I know you know this already. Most analysis is based off how it is done. - Glak18
There was an article within the last week regarding the methodology of the Phantoms PK. Its very unorthodox. I cant recall the player interviewed but he said he doesnt think it would work in the NHL because the skill level of the players would be able to pick it apart. Then followed up with a "who knows until its tried" |
