Wonder if he gets traded

- bulet13

Doesn't make sense to me. I'd like to know the details of the negotiation. Seems like a very good deal from Nylander's side in my opinion.

Guess Toronto cracked. Or they're gonna try to trade him now

Wonder if there is more to it. The Leafs could end up in a real tough spot this coming off-season with the other contracts they will have to offer.

JvR and Simmonds play different styles, but if you are referring to net presence then you have to add Patrick to that. All 3 mostly play around the net. It could work, maybe someone will finally grab a rebound.
- Glak18

I'm interested in seeing this line. I thought JVR and Simmer played well together but Weal was not strong enough at center. Patty will be an upgrade. Could be interesting line.

My main objection is that Lindblom and Patrick had developed good chemistry and they got broken up. Lindblom is not a 4th line player. He needs to be around the net. If not with Patty, at least get him to the 3rd line with Jake and Laughton or Weal.

That would be my guess. They've taken the guessing out of it regarding the contract situation and can really hold a bidding war for him.

Wonder what his timetable to play is. He's probably been keeping in shape, but hasn't been to any practices or anything.

Good deal for both sides. If any rumors were somewhat accurate today, keeping Nylander under $7 mil will make him easier to trade. 6 years for $6.9 for Nylander is strong. Probably doesn't fit into Leafs cap with those others coming due. Probably a little higher than Leafs wanted but he is signed. Play him or trade him.

Locking up Nylander for 6 years at a cap below 7 million is a great deal. If they deal him, some other team is going to be very happy. He’s smart, has great skills, speed and a lethal wrist shot. I really think that in a year or 2 he’ll be a 30 goal 85 point player and those guys will be getting deals with cap hits approaching 10 million by then.

Cap hit will be higher this year then years 2-6 will be lower, maybe 6.5 per. This deal even at 6.9m for 6 years could of easily been done in the offseason. The fact it went to the last minute makes me believe other teams would not give the cost Toronto wanted for trade without a contract. Dubas probably told him no one wins unless you have a contract first.

Not saying this rumor was accurate but would you be willing to trade Ghost for Nylander? I'm not sure. As much as I dispise Gost's prowess on D, he is an offensive threat and a top PP qb. Tough to replace. Sanheim or Myers? Maybe.

Cancel what I said...this years cap hit is 10.2 and years 2 thru 6 are 6.9. So the Leafs did cave on demand.

"A week before Hextall’s firing, the Flyers strongly considered bringing Lehigh Valley Phantoms coach Scott Gordon up to the NHL to oversee the Flyers’ special teams (Gordon implemented a penalty kill that was 85.9 percent for the season heading into Saturday’s game) and making assistant Kris Knoblauch be the main bench boss for the Phantoms with Ian Laperriere going to the minors with him."

The fact that Nylander held out for 6.9M makes so much sense now. Like, here’s a kid that’s willing to sit out of the (frank)ing NHL on a dope team until his cheddar says 6.9 per year. What a fricken maniac haha. This kid must love making magic happen in the bedroom. Pissssss

A top notch offensive Dman is very hard to find, I’d hold onto Ghost. As much as I like Sanheim though, I’d move him and Simmonds for Nylander. I like Nylander that much and he’s just as young as Sanheim too.

It's a fair deal. A tad high but reasonable. It's a deal they should've been able to make before the season.

If the Flyers think Myers can step in for Sanheim, then I'd be all for it. Would the Leafs really want Simmonds, though? He's going to cost around the same as Nylander.

With the number of quality forward prospects the Flyers have, I think trading Sanheim in a package for him would be a mistake. The Flyers have had such issues developing top defenseman, I don't see it making sense to trade Sanheim.

To me if you are trading Sanheim, the team better know what they have in Myers. Most reports I have seen has Myers either just below Sanheim or just above. Unfortunately that won't be known for years.

Ahem

Pierre LeBrun-

"Any way you look at it, while it’s a crummy experience sitting out two months, when you consider the Leafs were at 6 x 6 at the start of the season and desperately didn’t want to go above 6.5 for the longest time, the ordeal was well worth it financially for Nylander"

I think Sanheim has the potential to be a no2 dman so I don't think Myers is ahead of him.
