Berube coached in 13/14 where there were 5 players on the team who played tonight. In 14/15 there were 6. Nothing to do with what started under Berube. - MJL
It’s a good thing those 5 are fourth liners and don’t have any role in the leadership group. |

The Kings are a mess. I'd kick the tires on a deal involving Jake and Kopitar. See what it takes. - hereticpride
That's not going to happen unless the Flyers add significantly more. Kopitar is one of the best 2 way centers in the league.

It was a lot of puck luck against tonight that cost them the game. Also, continued poor puck management by some key guys like Jake, Provorov and to a lesser degree, Ghost.
That cross-ice pass by Jake w/ the goalie pulled was a microcosm of his entire early season.
Otherwise, they won the territorial battle for the most part, had a lot of A+ scoring chances, but missed by an inch or less on 5 shots. And that 50/50 interference call on JVR. And that bouncing outlet pass by Folin that Patrick couldn't handle. That (frank)ing stick save by Kinkaid. Groin-gate.
It could easily have been a 6-2 win, instead of a 0-3 loss. |

Bill Meltzer: Wrapup: Flyers Come up Empty in 3-0 Loss to Devils - bmeltzer
this was like watching every goddamn flyers-devils game from 1994-2004, especially those played in philly.
5 posts
99239 shots right into the goalie with no screen, deflections or lateral plays
missed a literal 24 SF of empty net at 2-0 by hitting a diving defenseman's stick.
disallowed goal
whole lot of perimeter
2 goals allowed off turnovers, 1 early, 1 late
injured goalie
(frank) off. |

It's absurd to suggest that any issue with the team currently is due to something that started under Berube. There has been massive turn around in the team since then. Those same leaders were around when Laviolette was fired and Berube was hired.

I don't see the issue as the Flyers are soft. I see the issue as they didn't score a goal and again, they had a drop off in their play in the second period. Needs to be more of a push consistently. - MJL At this stage, how can there not be consistent play from your veterans? |

I applaud the optimism and I don't think you're wrong but there are no moral victories awarded in the standings. Need to find a way.

For all the people wanting to move Simmonds just realize that the team gets more like cold oatmeal.
Not saying its wrong but I dunno Im just not a fan of making a soft team even softer. |

Good question. The Devils don't have any true shutdown defenseman and their best defenseman left the game early. The top line should've gotten it done.

Kinkaid got that, but yeah... (frank)ing unbelievably unlucky/lucky. |

From the last thread...
That was some rotten luck all in the same game. Maybe it’s just me but it was like back when Hitch was behind the bench. The pairings and lines got the blender treatment. I don’t know if it was just a result of all the special teams including 4 on 4 or unfinished line changes or if Hak was trying to promote or demote guys. Hard to follow.
The 2 goals against Elliott were results of Flyer mistakes but the fact that the Flyers were shut out was pizz poor luck. |

What tough stuff has he done though really? The current NHL barely has any fights. And the scrums that amount to nothing, who cares?
The sad reality is that there are plenty of teams who find ways to succeed in this league without that guy these days. |

i knew this game would go pretty much exactly as it did when the devils scored that poop goal 4 minutes in.
they didn't give up a PP goal tonight but they're ranked 29 and 30 on special teams. how is it possible that a team with as much talent as they have is this bad in this area. 3 pp goals in their last 43 chances or something similar. 10 pp goals against in their last 12 games.
why don't they play well on home ice? |

no. the defenseman got that with the shaft of his stick and the puck deflected over the net. it was ridiculous. how an NHL player in that situation does not score is simply inexcusable. |

Yah, he has dropped em yet but he seems to be the only player on this team that even gives the threat of initiating a fight..
Again I dont think its the key to the team but I just fear getting rid of him makes it even softer. |

Gotta give Kinkaid credit. I'm sure Bratt felt the same way when Elliott robbed him and he had a wide open gaping net.

Nope, it was Kinkaid that got it with the paddle of his goalie stick. Simmonds fired it hard right into the center of the net. That scores 99/100. |

No excuse needs to be made. Simmonds did exactly what he should've done. Kinkaid lunged and got a stick on it. Nothing you can do about it. It's how the night went.
