I like some of the pairings. I think Maatta has played well with Rikola tonight, Guetzel with Kessel, Crosby with Simon. I think ZAR continues to play pretty well and Wilson.

I’ve been wondering how decent a 4th line of ZAR-Sheahan-Wilson would be once Brassard comes back. Obviously it won’t happen because Cullen won’t come out of the lineup

I don't know how this game will turn out but DeSmith has earned the starting job for the moment.

If someone designed a robot that was a hockey player. Just type in height and weight, that would be Bryan Rust. Vanilla bland boring.

I wonder if JR waits on a trade to let them ride some momentum or if he makes a trade while they are looking good (I'd assume they have some additional perceived value with their play tonight). Or if he just trades Sprong regardless for someone he feels could help compliment this team.

Indeed impressive - always liked his calm movements, and now another shutout putting our painful losing series to an end. Still hope MM will find his game, history has shown that we really need two good tenders.

Good to see them slam the door on the losing streak.

Sid had a great game. Only 2 points but he was key to all the goals.

Sid was noticeable on every shift. Rust with easily his best game.....apparently he noticed JR's comments. It wasn't a defensive gem, but DeSmith was strong. This team needs solid, consistent tending and Murray wasn't giving them that.

I still think Sprong's days are numbered here.

They could win 10 straight with him in the lineup and I think that’d still hold true.

I hope they can string some together to prevent any desperate moves from JR.

I do think a shakeup is still in order.

Nice to see a few Sid and Phil shifts tonight too

Nobody was really taking Murray seriously as a starter when he was called up until people started taking him seriously. Maybe it's time to consider DeSpite his age that DeSmith might be a starting goalie?

Hornqvist with a sweat goal, JJ with a nice hold in the zone and an assist on said goal. It is going to be interesting to see how we turn this into a negative.

Maybe we can renew the Fleury/Murray battle with DeSmith vs. Murray.

He is calm in net that's for sure. He was super solid tonight and stopped 39 shots. It was quite a performance.

I think our biggest assest that we should think about moving is Murray. Couple DeSmiths play with Murray's concussion issues. Do it.

Also reading the blog today I couldn't help but think Ryan Wilson must think he's the smartest person in the universe. But why is he writing for hockeybuzz then?

Big NO!, nearly all world-class NHL goalies had their dire streaks (some even regularly when it mattered most come playoff time), give him time to reset and we will see. Goalies fetch on the market not much anyways, while a lot franchises seek their starter season after season with still limited success. In aftermath including Gustavsson in the Brassard-trade was very painful though.

Pearson just needs a change of scenery. Slot him with Geno, and he’s top-6 wing. Keep JJ out of the deal, and you can have him if you take one of our larger contracts.
- Ersberg

The Penguins are here to contend. Make no mistake, Rutherford is not going to be "taking" one of your larger contracts.
