Sheary is getting some PP time, not sure if he did in Pittsburgh. He's also playing with Mittelstadt and Okposo, which, depending on how you view it, is either the 2nd or 3rd line.
I have a feeling Botterill knew Hunwick was done when the Sabres traded for him. There has been absolutely no news about his status since before the preseason. I think it's a "soft retirement" |

Glad we’re likely not gonna sit on Sprong like we did with DP. Kid’s definitely gonna bust here and it’s looking probable that he’s just a bust in general. His value is declining on a game to game basis and the window where we’re able to get something useful back for him will only stay open for so long. |

In was told by a mutual friend of Sprong a few years back that management didn't like him. Neither did he think his teammates did either. Weird situation as they had only drafted him that year, but apparently he was sure he wouldn't last in Pittsburgh. |

Well if Pittsburgh took care of the cap better it wouldn't be so complicated. |

I was never happy about the Pens moving Sheary, but I didn't think it was the end of the world. I was more unhappy with how they utilized the free space from that trade.
That being said, moving Sprong will not yield much on his own. As we've all talked about, he could maybe get a player in a similar situation in return.

Wonder if Rutherford and Murray are talking cause the Ducks are a mess and for some reason they don't seem to want to fire Carlyle. |

Ready to give up on Pearson after one bad start or do you really want Neon Deon out of there that badly?
How about this...
TO LA:
Jack Johnson
Daniel Sprong
TO PIT:
Phaneuf
Pearson
You don't have retain a dime. I'll take two more seasons of Phaneuf at $5Mish than five years of JJ at $3mish |

If you are giving up Pearson for nothing, may I suggest Phaneuf and Pearson for MacDonald. |

I’m a Sheary fan and actually liked the Sheary trade. In hindsight it was an insanely bad move. We squandered the cap space and we’re getting no depth scoring despite looking deep on paper. Funny if we kept Sheary we never sign Johnson and Cullen and we have a couple less papercuts right now. |

You boys have had some questionable tending........ Sprong for Keith Kinkaid? - bikeguy99
We already have a strong back-up in DeSmith. Plus, if the Pens don't play like a sieve in front of Murray he might have a chance to have normal stats. |

This is the point I was trying to make. I didn't think the trade was bad. I was unhappy he was not going to play here anymore. I think he suffered the Hagelin-effect from a lot of fans.
What the Pens did next was terrible. The Pens defense would have been everyone they have now minus JJ which couldn't be any worse and a better offense. |

Sure, if you retain the equivalent half of JJ’s remaining salary.

The idea is for LA to shed salary. Pearson is the sweetner to take on Phaneuf. |

If I'm dealing with LA, I'm wanting Pearson and Muzzin. What will it take to get that? I have no idea. I'd throw Sprong, Maatta, Riikola and a pick. I'm sure that's not sufficient though.
Think they'd take Hornqvist? |

I felt Rutherfords message was more about Rust than sprong. He talked about young guys who win stanley cups, a good new contract and forget about what they did to get there.
I mean of course Sprong is the obvious trade but I wouldnt be shocked to see Rust traded. He has played with everybody and only has 3 points I think?
I think the obvious way to improve the team is keep Sid, Geno and Kessel split. Keep ZAR in and scratch cullen for anything that has legs. And then start thinking about trades. |
