Crazy to think no matter how good this team is, fans will find something to female dog about.
Atherial will come in and tell us how crap Matthews is if he only gets 5 points in 6 games.
Garnie will tell us that Zaitsev should be slaughtered if he's a minus 4 after the first 4 games.
"If we had more grit we would be 10-0-0 instead of only 7-1-2 to start the season."
It never ends.

I never understood the Matthews hate from Aetherial. If Matthews doesn’t score on any given shift he’s “invisible” or “not trying.” Who cares if he finishes with a goal and an assist, and had the most shots in the game? Like (frank) off.

His dad was notorious for this....no place for a guy on this team like that....6 million u.s. dollars to boot isnt enough for a player that honestly held up going in the corners in the boston series. Trade em....get guys that really wanna be part of this. Need defensive help anyways. Talented player for sure but no one is bigger than the team. Like to have him but. Got to have some money to pay the kapiens and johnsons of the world....thats how we are gonna win period. Im sure dubas is gonna give nylander a chance to come to his senses. But if not im sure kyle is quitely talking to other teams.

Lol reading Twitter is amusing. Some goof (Canucks fan surprisingly) says leafs don't even have top 5 offense in the east.

Pretty sure the people saying Nylander doesn't matter are Russian trolls.

Berger yesterday said that leafs missed the boat trying to trade nylander for ek65. Ummm did he see the return he brought back that idiot thinks that despite that return the leafs should have done it, and then called him potential 40goal forward.

Anyone know why turdburger isn't working anymore?

Unless Leivo disappoints at camp, I’d rather they give him a shot to stick than go out and sign Nash. Too many guys that deserve a chance to be signing more wingers

I don't believe he's asked for 8. Dreger's reports have been brutal regrading the Leafs the past couple of years.
- RogerRoeper

It was reiterated by Elliotte Friedman, so it appears the $8M+ ask was true.

That misses the overall point completely....the Sens would have never traded Karlsson to Toronto. NEVER!!!

Yet they allowed the 3rd least amount of goals in the East last season and were 1st in GA in the East after New Year's.
No one can explain that one. And statistically, Freddie was "Good", but had a very average season he always has.
The cup champs and Tampa allowed more GA last season than the Leafs.

The longer this goes the less it is in Nylander’s favour

The Leafs hold the cards and just because PC chose not to use his leverage(literally didn’t use any of it they signed contracts the first day they could)

this year's cap is not remotely an issue. I looked at cap geek and I think they have $13M with only Nylander to sign.

It's next year that I'm unsure. I see $31M in space, assuming no cap increase, with 12 players to sign (to get to 23 roster MAX). Minimum is 21. Some ballpark guesses....

Matthews - $11M
Nylander $7.5
Marner - $8M
Kapanene - $3M
Johnsson - $2M
Gardiner - $6M?
the rest will almost surely be filled in with $1M rookie contracts.
$6M

$43M total. So, there has to be some give somewhere. My guess is Marleau does not stay, and that was always in the plans. That's basically half, just $6M away. That's without losing a single player though. Gardiner is the other guy not likely in the plans. They're probably just looking for one of the young dmen to be NHL ready. Hopefully Liljegren. Maybe one of the Swedes. Or Nielsen.

So, Nylander signed, not a single player other than Gardiner lost. Assuming no cap increase, and MAX roster size.

This year is easy, next year is a squeeze, but manageable.

Why would the Leafs offer Nylander when it took so little to get Karlsson?
And Karlsson is just too expensive. They can't afford to keep him after this season.

Berger works in funeral home. He is not in the media anymore.

Maybe they are talking to the same source? Friedman's sources have been wrong before (Like Lou wanting to offer sheet the Leafs young players, only to trade for Martin within 24 hours of Friedman's report).

They have more than that, the can still use Hortons LTIR salary next year, if it's too tight.

Nylander needs the Leafs more than vice/versa. Leafs have 3 young wingers who are in need of more ice-time. What if one of Kaps/Brown/Johnson takes his spot and produces greatly? It makes the need for NYlander less.
He's taking a big risk here.

While the ask might be $8+, not a chance Leafs will give in on that number at this juncture. There's been substantial efforts made to unload deals considered overpays and bad deals over the past few seasons. Zaitsev could be considered one, but the jury is out on that one. With Pridham and Gilham on board, I'm sure the max for a long term deal with Nylander is about $7 and they will fight tooth and nail to make it less than that.

Leak a photo of Dubas having a coffee with Nash.

That should motivate Nylander to sign.

I agree with most of this, I don't think Gardiner will resign, we'll see. If he hits 60 points - which isn't a huge stretch with this group if healthy, he will want more than $6 M and it will be decision time. Marner could make a case for making more than $8, but for him, like JT - this is his dream job, his dream team. Matthews number will depend on his production this year.
