Must be nice to have so many picks you can make a trade like this and it doesn’t hurt your prospect pipeline.

Why wouldn’t they just sign Neal? Bizarre trade. No brutal trade

Didn’t they give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Tatar?

Yeah. So in essence Vegas has given up 2 x 1st round picks, 2 x 2nd round picks and one 3rd round pick for one guaranteed year of Patches.

- 1970vintage

1st round pick
2nd round pick
2nd round pick
3rd round pick
Nick Suzuki

for

Max Pacioretty

I think Pacioretty is underrated and will thrive away from that mess in Montreal but wow, McPhee is quickly burning through all of those assets he picked up in the expansion draft.

I think did Montreal did solid here considering what Skinner got and Bergevin screwing himself by saying they’re not re-signing Patches.

If you truly want to get banned, for the badge of honor, just pop by the leaf thread and tell them they suck. Wait 5 seconds. Bam, you’re banned.
- 1970vintage

I pop by on occasion, but don't bother posting any troll comments. I don't like those guys coming here, so I stay away from that behavior.
Also, as a man-in-training, I find that stuff too be considered, not so manly...at least that is what my mentors tell me.

Gotcha

No fan of Tatar but Habs get another young C & a late 2nd. Idk if i like either side of it lol

The Habs probably satisfied. Idk wtf McPhee is doing though.

The Patches trade speaks volumes

MB settled for the best offer he could find & pulled the trigger fast. Didn’t want to start the season with him so sold him cheapish.
Young prospect C’s are hard to acquire.
Need for a C was obvious.
Tatar is a bust & unwanted by VGK.
The late 2nd is the sweetener.

Never thought much of Tatar & Holland made out like a bandit. McPhee epic fail.

Suzuki i’m not sold on & ceiling is a 2C but highly likely a 3C.

Late 2nd the way the Habs draft isn’t much.

MB did ok but he’s way past his due date

that was my first thought as well.

eesh.

I don't know enough about Suzuki, but i'd imagine Mtl fans won't be thrilled with teh return.
However, at this point, i'd be happy to get anything for the guy.
There was no way it was going to turn out well for him to remain with the Habs.

i'd say it's a wash given the above.

McPhee commented on the analytics for Neal, said he was one of the worst defensive players on their team. They could either live with it, or fix it, they chose to fix it.

They won the division & made the SCF.
For a GM who has never done that before idk wtf it matters lol

Tossing away assets

Ain’t broke don’t fix it...

He obviously thought, along with their management group, that it was important enough to address, I guess. Just stating what I heard McPhee say in an interview.

No....Canucks are not in a position to compete, unless they can pull another one over on Dorion?

Jeff Skinner (579 204 175 379)
For
Cliff Pu (3rd round pick)
2019 2nd round pick
2020 3rd round pick
2020 6th round pick

Max Pacioretty (626 226 222 448)
For
Tomas Tatar (1st, 2nd, 3rd)
Nick Suzuki (1st round)
2019 2nd round pick

Patches is obviously a better player. Tatar was never worth a 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The way he played he probably has minus value now.

Montreal wins by quality over quantity.

he is sneaky, slowly, climbing the ranks. Perhaps a call up mid season? No clue about his future. But a cup of coffee for starters? perhaps.
- storm88

I believe he is a career AHL player. If he is a call up we have had tons of injuries or we are in deep sh1t.

• McPhee keeps rolling the dice. From Adam Oates to Jaromir Jagr to Martin Erat to Tatar to Pacioretty, McPhee hasn't been afraid to make bold, potentially embarrassing moves throughout his career.

• Vegas still doesn't look like a top Stanley Cup contender. That is, unless Marc-Andre Fleury continues his late-career revival, which will be especially important early in the season without Schmidt and possibly Theodore. Regardless, Pacioretty does stand as the most impressive off-season acquisition in a weak division. The Golden Knights are as good a pick as any to make the Western Conference Final once again.

From VGK blog.

A McPhee trade, for how many years did he make a bigger trade, to try and get the caps to win a cup. Now that he is has left Washington their prospect pool is ranked in the lower half of the league.

I think it will depend if they can sign him to an extension. I like it for MTL based on where they are now.
