Oh I get it - "If he reaches his top 4 potential" then you believe he has more value than the trade for Sven - I'm just trying to understand how you're quantifying that assessment? - Brooks_Light
I believe top 4 dmen are more valuable than middle 9 wingers?
Not exactly a bold statement...in fact arguing against that would need explaining
I honestly don’t even feel the need or have the motivation to argue for such an obvious statement |

I'm arguing that a guy who's continually improved his PPG each season, put up 93 points and cost a combined 4,6mil over the past 3 years and is actually top 6 numbers is more valuable than someone that future is based on "potential" |

again, I'm simply stating that the which player ends up being more valuable is still up for debate, time will tell. I'm not suggesting that Andersson for sure is worth more in a trade or to a franchise than Sven is today.
I think most people here would trade Sven right now if someone had a crystal ball and told us that the player we're getting back will be a legit 2nd pairing dman for sure. If you wouldn't do that trade because you believe Sven is a good long-term top 6 forward and is more valuable than a dmen like that, I'm okay with that too.
We're literally arguing about semantics, if you simply want me to concede that I've stated something wrong, then okay, you win.

You've convinced me to re-think my personal opinion, I'll re-think this and post my thoughts on this subject again at a later date |

I agree in some ways - its especially tough to compare Forwards to Dmen and try to account for "value" and You're right in that "time will tell" but you also can't discount what someone's actually done verse what someone might do.
Yakupov had tons of "potential" - hows that working out for him? (you don't have to answer that)

We're on the same page here. I agree that Sven being an established valuable NHL'er helps make up for the positional difference, arguing which player has more value today is up for debate and there's no real right answer right now since Andersson is still further back in his developmental process. |

I've written you down in mini's book. In 15 years we can revisit the subject to see who actually won the trade. Until then, the player who is actually producing in the nhl has to be considered the better player which mean the canucks won the trade.
Definitely Canucks.
Boom goes the dynamite.

McMaster played for the Comets last year and did fine - VANTEL
he is sneaky, slowly, climbing the ranks. Perhaps a call up mid season? No clue about his future. But a cup of coffee for starters? perhaps. |

I believe what Sven has already accomplished has him ahead of potential.
When or if Anderson makes it as top 4 the entire stats will be evaluated. At that point Anderson has a lot of ground to make up. |

Cannot call up AHL contracts. I don’t see any reason to waste an NHL contract on him for a cup of coffee. |

Habs finally trade their Captain to Vegas - Bakwas
Didn’t they give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Tatar?
Yeah. So in essence Vegas has given up 2 x 1st round picks, 2 x 2nd round picks and one 3rd round pick for one guaranteed year of Patches. |

Must be nice to have so many picks you can make a trade like this and it doesn’t hurt your prospect pipeline.
