He might suck goat balls, I’m not privy to his personal preferences, but he would put up 50 points on the second line with decent line mates, something that Beagle will never do. But it isn’t about Bozak, as I said, it was about finding the best offensive player they could at the C position, over paying that player to come to Van on a very short deal, giving time for the better prospects to develop. It also would have allowed Gaudette to ease into the NHL in a 4th line role, or head to Utica if he wasn’t ready and a guy like Schaller was capable of 4th line C.

About Hughes...

Glad for him he wants to go back to college & driven to be a star. I’d rather him in Utica but i’m very ok with the NCAA.

If he truly can play RHD thats a big bonus otherwise we are stuck with Tanev EG & Stecher for better or worse. Wish Tree came back to give us more options.

I’m wondering if TL had another pick in mind? Hughes no probs but a true RHD was a bigger need. Hindsight a trade down with NYI for a 1st+ i wonder if it was explored.

Draft and develop works. It has always worked.

I just picked a random one of these posts to respond to, but some of you are making out like Benning has come up with an amazing new way to build a championship team. Draft you say, and develop? OMG my mind is blown.

Oh, you are reading this so wrong if you believe this is about a quick fix.

Benning's entire program is about "being competitive, while injecting younger, more skilled players into the lineup". Do we agree on that?

My position is that he has failed at the first part because he has over estimated the capabilities of the veteran players he has brought in to keep them competitive. Brandon Sutter was never going to replace what Kesler did for the Canucks. Everyone who pays attention to hockey said so when that trade was made, and now he is going to be the second line C? If instead of bringing in a new 4th line, Benning had done is best to find a guy capable of playing 2nd line minutes, and putting up 50 ish points, giving a guy like Pettersson a chance to break in to the NHL on the wing, in an offensive role, I believe the team would have had a better chance of "being competitive" and supporting the youth.

On a more entertaining note, I was trying to type the word while, and auto correct typed iHole, which is pretty darn funny

Lots of interesting talent & top heavy on wings & LHD. Lacking C’s. Next draft a C looks likely to stock up on. RHD are a league wide need. Faulk looks like a good idea to look into. Trade current D asap.

Sure, not saying the Canucks haven't picked some good prospects, but go do this same thing for a few other teams to put it in perspective.

Just cherry picked who i like.
How they pan out or get developed is hard to say. I do see a lack of a top 2C & more RHD.

Playmakers & O from D is lacking
Plenty of good skaters

When the injuries hit we are going to wish Hughes was here but it is what it is. Michigan ain't so bad.

Agree I'd be willing to bet that Linden and Benning weren't on the same page at the draft. I like Hughes...but is another small dman really what we need? We need D but like you said maybe in a different capacity. The league is changing and smaller players are excelling in many different roles...but I'd bet Linden was eyeballing someone else.

When the injuries hit we have OJ Sautner Briesbois and McEneny that can step in. on the left side .
On the right side Biega Pouliot Chatfield and Sautner played a game right side last year

Yup, Vantel has failed for 4 years to be competitive while bringing in young players, why would he succeed now?

I'm not a Simmons fan but there's probably a lot of truth to his statement on the internal struggles between Aquilini, Linden, Benning & Weisbrod.

It's well known FA wants no part of a long rebuild.

No thanks, sounds like a deep deep rabbit hole. Here's what Dobber hockey has to say https://dobberprospects.c...ional-prospects-rankings/ the Canucks certainly rate well, but my point was that there are several other teams that have been in similar situations (in the standings), and come out as looking pretty good too.

I don't listen to Cox or Simmonds . Too much Toronto bias, so I didn't hear what he said
