Do you think Benning would have been able to get by Linden first?
Benning came in here with no connection to the twins or Edler . He had 7? NTC / NMC and a sh1t roster after that . Good luck - VANTEL
He traded Kesler, Garrison and Bieska, waived Higgins. He has never been shy about ruffling feathers. But then he pissed away everything.
Anyway, it was meant as a joke to say if the rebuild had started when you suggest, the team would likely be further along now, and the twins might have come back, which would make you a sad panda. |

I think Sven Jake and Sutter will all be around 15 goals . Does that count? |

Kesler traded Kesler . Lets be clear of that.

I agree. Jake needs to step up . Brock has already stepped up . Juolevi (who I didn't want )needs to also. Pettersson and Hughes too soon to judge but look good. I think they will be okay - VANTEL
Jake and Goldobin are both going have good NHL season. which is what we need from both. |

He (Benning) tanked the team in his second year, purposely, so for the 2016 draft, finished third last. But he trades away his 2nd & 4th round picks for Gudbranson, he trades away the extra 2nd round pick for Sutter, he acquired from trading Bieksa, and he trades his 3rd round pick for Pedan.
That's why he's an idiot!!! - LeftCoaster
I said it a few times he made mistakes his first two years. Have to get over it . |

We're in year 5 of Benning's tenure. How many of his draft picks have had a positive impact on the club so far? If people don't really begin to step forward this season and next then i would consider his tenure an absolute failure. - golfingsince
Even after year five you can only really judge the first two or three draft classes, so the 2014 2015 2016 drafts. After this season.
As I just mentioned above, if Benning had concentrated on the draft in 2016 instead of picking up Sutter and Gudbranson, those kids should/would be starting to show their faces now.
Instead we have a third line center and a third pairing defenseman to show for his efforts. |

No because that won't make them any better than they were last year. |

Also Mccann is coming around as an NHL player. Only 28 points but he plays a 200ft game. His faceoffs are still brutal but I think he'll also take a big step forward this season. |

If Benning didn't pick up Sutter we would be switching the name to Bonino whom we would all be complaining about today. Everyone wanted him gone too after year one . |

You asked me why I continually call him an idiot, I'm giving you examples. He's still an idiot because I think, he thinks, those were good moves and I'm also thinking he'd do it again for another supposed quick fix.
Which all leads back to me wanting him to stop shortcutting and rebuild properly. |

Not sure if this has been discussed but did anyone see Lucic's comment on DeRozan?
"He's being like a little bitter [expletive] at the organization for trading him for Kawhi Leonard…. You didn't get traded to frickin' Cleveland. You got traded to San Antonio, a team that competes for a title every year. You get to be coached by the Bill Belichick of basketball with Gregg Popovich. You feel like you're being disrespected? Come on man, you're still making $30 million a year living in San Antonio with no state tax. Give me a break, man. Nobody feels bad for you. [Expletive] off."
I think Milan's going a little cuckoo. |

But we'd still have Bonino, Forsling (Clendenning) and our 2nd round pick and finishing at the bottom of the league. Trading for Sutter was, and always will be, a terrible trade unless they can get a boatload for him at the TDL. |

He has had too many knee jerk moves and it has cost us over the long term. Had he held fast instead of trying to patch the small holes in hull with his “diamonds in the rough” we would be closer now than we are. |

You don't know what you have until it plays out. When he gets traded they you have to see the return and even though you hate him has been a good player for Canucks. |

The point is the team wasted assets to acquire the same type of player and still finished at the bottom of the league. That's poor asset management and why Benning is an idiot. |

I wish people would stop referencing this strategy as a possible outcome for any of our non-core players.
JB's not going to make this club better through trades. That's not his strength. |
