What are you complaining about? I don't know calling Benning an idiot every day ?
Again I am the wrong person to . I led the way here back when Benning came in and said that he should trade Edler and the Sedins.I was shot down by almost every one of you . He could have made a killing in trades . So now 5 years later you want a rebuild that should have began in 2013. - VANTEL
Two things, I believe they could've started a rebuild without trading the Sedins, two, they couldn't trade the Sedins because they didn't want to be traded. |

I'm not a Benning fan, never have been. I do think the team is getting close to turning it around though. It would be nice to win a lottery jackpot or 2 to get us close to contending in a few years. - golfingsince
Exactly how I feel . Not a big fan but think he has done a decent job. |

They don't need to step in and have Boeser like rookie seasons in order to make the team better in two seasons. I don't expect Gaudette to ever be more than a good 3rd line C in this league, but you need one of those to be a good team in this league. EP needs to show he can become a top line player in the NHL, and Juolevi at the minimum that he can be a top 3 Dman.
It's not expecting miracles out of EP to hope he scores 15 goals and 40 points as a rookie. - golfingsince
Again, I'm just of the opinion they need a lot more than just Pettersson to have a great season to be competitive. The goaltending needs to improve, the defence needs to improve, they need more skill, they need more speed, they need more size.
It's coming, but it happens slowly in most cases. |

Two of those guys have played an NHL game
It took Horvat one extra year of junior and two years of NHL experience before he became a good NHL player, what makes you think every Canucks prospect can just step in and become an effective player like Boeser? Who developed for two years in college.
Three years away from being competitive imo. - LeftCoaster

If Benning had actually broken through to ownership and started rebuilding when he came on, the team might actually be decent by now, and maybe the twins would have signed on to play another year or two |

As am I. I do expect some internal growth with players currently on the team in most cases though. I don't expect more from Boeser, he might even regress a little. It's guys like Virtanen, Baertschi, Guance ( no need to laugh ) that I expect to take bigger steps. |

So what you are really saying then that is not Bennings fault
After the Sedins and Edler what was their to trade? All players we in their 30s
He did trade their next best player for Dahlen
Hansen for Goldobin
He did trade the first round pick McCann ( the guy who said whatever when drafted and seemed to be a thorn in the room) |

The NHL is a difficult league to come into and perform at a high level right away, so although I believe the Canucks have some great prospects, I don't think they come in and set the league on fire.
Pettersson maybe, hopefully, but the others will need "time"! |

Without Linden to shelter him from FA and a new president coming in it could be a lot sooner. - thundachunk
I linked the article earlier, but I figured I'd quote it so everyone can see how trevor was back stabbed.
Nasty politics pushed Linden out with Canucks
The story isn’t quite as it appeared: Trevor Linden did not amicably agree to leave the presidency of the Vancouver Canucks. He was, for lack of a better word, fired by owner Francesco Aquilini.
This is a messy story, still to be explored in full, of the Vancouver legend, Linden, who could no longer operate in the toxic environment of the Canucks front office and ownership.
Linden was caught in the middle of a power struggle and a hockey struggle of sorts, with an impatient Aquilini on one side and his general manager, Vantel, and personnel man, John Weisbrod, nastily selling out the team president in exchange for their own power and security.
All this coming after Linden went to bat for Vantel in order to get his contract extended. Vantel got extended. Linden got shown the door.
And those on the inside are still somewhat shocked at the lack of loyalty Vantel demonstrated to Linden and how the GM and Weisbrod played footsy with ownership, who isn’t so committed to a long-term rebuild and really, wants to make the playoffs now.
Linden has yet to speak publicly about his departure in a place where he is still considered something of a hero. He did issue a statement on leaving the Canucks. He never did mention Aquilini or Vantel in his goodbye. - Steve Simmons |

This team needs to be able to stay healthy. They also need better goaltending. |

Do you think Benning would have been able to get by Linden first?
Benning came in here with no connection to the twins or Edler . He had 7? NTC / NMC and a sh1t roster after that . Good luck |

I think we'll have a pretty good idea in what we have with Demko by the end of the 2019-2020 season. |

We're in year 5 of Benning's tenure. How many of his draft picks have had a positive impact on the club so far? If people don't really begin to step forward this season and next then i would consider his tenure an absolute failure. |

He (Benning) tanked the team in his second year, purposely, so for the 2016 draft, finished third last. But he trades away his 2nd & 4th round picks for Gudbranson, he trades away the extra 2nd round pick for Sutter, he acquired from trading Bieksa, and he trades his 3rd round pick for Pedan.
That's why he's an idiot!!! |

I agree. Jake needs to step up . Brock has already stepped up . Juolevi (who I didn't want )needs to also. Pettersson and Hughes too soon to judge but look good. I think they will be okay |
