The notion of Babcock not being a "developmental coach" is pretty difficult to measure. We don't hear the dialogue between coach and players. We mostly don't see what goes on in his practices and his off-ice methods. Tough to say.
I think he's been pretty solid so far with the way he has slowly allowed our younger players to play more of a difficult role, while also putting them in a position to succeed.
Look at the way he has handled Kadri. Matthews just has a HUGE level of ambition, and Babcock is progressively appropriating his ice-time and match-ups with first line opposition players.

In hindsight whats worse?
Hall for Larsson or Kessel for Seguin and Hamilton? - PatC80
In all fairness, Seguin for Kessel isnt that awful. I never like when people put the draft pick in as a player, that would assume that Burke and co. would have actually drafted Hamiltoin, which based on their track record I truly doubt. |

For what it's worth, and I'm speaking as someone coaching managers pretty much every day, going out of his way to go and talk with Matthews and exchange visions and thoughts is a very, very good thing.
Matthews will be fine. So will Babcock. |

true, for all we know, Burke would have drafted Duncan Siemens instead. Let's position it another way, would you have traded a 2nd overall pick and a 9th overall pick for Kessel? |

We're actually talking about the 2 first and a 2nd for Kessel trade?
Is it my birthday? |

I think so too; Matthews probably wants more responsibility, and I think he deserves it; I wouldn't be surprised if Matthews gets some time on the PK next season.
Also, give him the C now. At this point, it's a formality. We all know he will get it. |

WHC is so bizarre.
Finland loses to Denmark and Germany, and wins against Canada and the USA.

YES! He is pretty mature for his age (from what I can tell).
A little consistency with the letters is exactly what we need. Let him grow into the role knowing the C isn't going anywhere. |

Just found out I won tickets to game 1 - Marlies & Phantoms
Second time i've won tickets to Marlies playoffs this season. Those random MLSE email contests for the Marlies actually give you a high chance of winning. |
