It was Erat and don't forget Latta - he's still playing in the AHL. That was one of McPhee's worst for sure, but not the worst trade of all time. I can think of at least three Leaf trades that were worse IMO.

1) The Leafs moved Frank Mahovlich, Pete Stemkowski, Garry Unger and the rights to Carl Brewer for Paul Henderson, Floyd Smith and Norm Ullman.

2)Tom Kurvers for the 2nd overall pick - Scott Niedermayer

3) Lanny McDonald plus Quenneville for Hickey and Paiement was worse.

Other trades way worse, the Gretzky for cash deal, Marcel Dionne trade and the Lindros trade. Lindros was great, but Quebec/Avs were set after that one.

We will see which year he really is. His rookie season or the one we witnessed. It probably looks worse for Zaitsev though considering he was really the only rookie to go into a sophmore slump.


Dude - the guy had a broken foot this year - you could tell he was not
near 100% - everone needs to stop worrying about Zaitsev - they guy is a solid
3-4 defenseman who will bounce back & be solid for years to come. He's just
coming into his prime years as well.

I would have preferred a bit less on his salary & term..but he will be just fine.

He will be 27 in October. I know he was a Rookie in the NHL in 2016-17, but he had 7 years pro exp.

anyways. he needs to improve on exiting his own end. he sucks at that

I'm on a hockey forum! Wishful thinking is what this place is about! If I can't wish for Tavares, Doughty and Karlsson becoming Leafs as free agents for 65 cents on the dollar of what they are really worth then what the hell are we all doing here?!

I think Marner had a sophomore slump to start the season. He looked lost.
Nylander had a stretch where he was invisible.
Rielly was not the same guy after his injury.
And yes, I agree Zaitsev is better than he showed, hopefully he can get his confidence back in a hurry.

I think the only way the Oilers trade the #10 pick is if a team accepts Lucic as part of the deal.
