You still need to give them a spot in the NHL to get up to speed with the NHL. Dermott, Kapanen and Johnsson have and will make simple mistakes still. - Aaron_85
All those players marinated in the AHL for a long time, they can jump into spots and not be complete liabilities. Hence so much time in the AHL, they have a good system going |

I agree they have a good system going.
I have no issue if they spend to the cap this year. Problem will occur when Nylander, Marner, Matthews all have contracts off their ELC. ( I miss the bridge contract).
Other problem is people want to pay a lot of money for long term on guys like Carlson. I would think it's better to see if anyone wants to be a mercenary for stupid money. Or again my favourite target, Spurgeon. |

Only Ek, Bergevin, Chia and Waddell would do that deal. Maybe McPhee. Can't trust a guy who trades a first, second, third for Tatar or Forsberg for Erat. |

Forsberg for Erat might be the worst trade of all time (after Gomez for McDonagh)
No actually Gomez had one decent season with the Habs.
Erat had 0 with the Caps. |

It's up there!
Still think Roy and Keane for Rucinsky, Kovalenko and Thibault is worse but.... I might be biased here. |

if fedorov was gm, he would have signed him. - Tumbleweed
He could have been a GM/Player after he came out of retirement to play for the Leafs. Why Shannahan!?!?! |

Him and Poile wouldn't have gotten along as co-gms though. Probably better off this way. |

I may have found a worst trade that the Roy one.

It was Erat and don't forget Latta - he's still playing in the AHL. That was one of McPhee's worst for sure, but not the worst trade of all time. I can think of at least three Leaf trades that were worse IMO.
1) The Leafs moved Frank Mahovlich, Pete Stemkowski, Garry Unger and the rights to Carl Brewer for Paul Henderson, Floyd Smith and Norm Ullman.
2)Tom Kurvers for the 2nd overall pick - Scott Niedermayer
3) Lanny McDonald plus Quenneville for Hickey and Paiement was worse.
Other trades way worse, the Gretzky for cash deal, Marcel Dionne trade and the Lindros trade. Lindros was great, but Quebec/Avs were set after that one. |

Fair point, plus it would make it awful hard for him to send himself down the AHL when he realized he cant play anymore... |
