Can he re-sign for the same 2yr deal plz? Either way this should help us solidify the playoffs. Good goal scorer. |

I think this is a trade where it's fair to like it or dislike it.
Grabner has been a solid scorer for the last couple years, and is extremely fast which very much fits with the Devils current identity.
The price they paid is medium. Giving up a 2nd isn't great but won't break the team. My understanding is Rykov has potential but also might never leave the KHL. He was a 5th round pick two years ago.
To me the biggest knock on this trade is, why are the Devils trading futures for a pending UFA? Clearly they aren't true Cup contenders this year. I guess what I'd say to that is I do believe at this point there is value, for the team and also just as a fan, of the team making the playoffs and having as good a showing as possible. I like the idea that when a team has a surprisingly good season, the GM "rewards" them with some help to make the push. Shows faith in the team. I get in theory the concept of "if you aren't competing for the Cup you may as well get a top 10 pick" but for where this team is at I think getting experience both making that last playoff push and competing in a playoff series is valuable. I think the idea is Grabner helps them there, and who knows maybe they'll resign him this summer. |

You have to believe Shero made this trade with a deal in place for Grabner. If so, hard to really dislike it. He's 30 and clearly can still produce at a very high clip. Hopefully the speed starts regressing years down the line and not this year. |

I don’t hate the trade but I don’t love it, either. It gives NJ more bottom six speed and scoring and it also might give a boost to the team in the sense that it sends a message that Shero thinks they can compete this year.
My biggest issue is trading with the motherfracking Rags. Not much else needs to be said about that. |

Ignoring the weird Rangers factor I think it's a pretty fair trade. Neither fan base is ecstatic about it which means it's a fair trade |

Great, hope he brings the Rangers winning formula with him.
(frank)ing Rangers.
Agreed. Stupid to give up assets for a rental when we're not cup contenders |

I don't think draft status should affect Rykov's trade value. I don't like giving up one of the better defense prospects the Devils have, especially to the Rangers.
I also would've preferred to spend more and get a guy like Hoffman who will help on the power play. |

Would be pretty hard to believe Shero making this trade if he did not already talk about an extension. I would be firmly against it if that was the case. |

Not a huge fan of grabner but I see it as a reward for the teams effort this year. To come this far and not make the playoffs would be a dissapointment, especially for a guy like Hall after the season he has had. Don't love the trade but I do like the acknowledgement towards the players. Plus Grabner scores a few nice breakaway goals so that will be fun! |

The exciting thing about Shero at the trade deadline is he'll try to buy everything available. |

Yeah not a fan of a pure rental trade like this, but it certainly seems like we're playoffs or bust at this point now. Grabner definitely makes us a better team for this season atleast, there's no denying Grabner has the speed to fit with our style and he's a finisher so it adds much needed secondary scoring. Maybe Shero adds another piece or two before monday afternoon? Who knows. I'd definitely like this trade more if he resigns for 2-3 more years with us, seems like he's expected to resign with the rangers though in the summer |

I don’t think ray does this deal if he doesn’t intend to resign him.
if it gets us over the hump im all for it. Can’t keep drafting for years and just wait for something. Wonder if he makes a pitch for E Kane with all the scouting in buffalo. |

I completely agree, i'm sure he'll try hard to resign Grabner(if a deal or talks arent already in place). As for Kane, im not sure, would prefer Hoffman over him. but I'm not sure if i'd be willing to give up our first at this point anymore. I would be interested in seeing if we could land a 2nd for Moore, seeing what Kempny was just traded for, and maybe flipping that 2nd + something else for another/better D?
I definitely believe Shero is/will be working on another move or two though, not saying we're "all-in" for the playoffs this season, but I think he's pushing to get us as much help to get us in

You better hope he doesnt get back to the cement hands he had in Toronto. God it was awful 5 to 10 breakaways a game and 1 to 2 shots on goal. The boy had some serious wheels then I assume they are still there. Of course when the leafs tried to move him at the deadline we got offered a bag of rusty nails with a hole on the bottom. So the rangers came out like bandits getting a decent 2nd round pick in a strong draft and a decent D prospect to boot. |

I hate this trade. Looks like Shero is bringing his Pittsburgh way to NJ, that's trading away picks and prospects for a bottom 6 player.
CBJ, NYI, and CAR are all losing/winning at a worse rate then us and we're 5/6 points ahead. That 2nd will be in the middle of the 2nd. Losing to PIT or WSH in the 1st round is not worth giving up a 2nd.
Why didn't Shero trade for R. Smith last year when everyone knew he was available. He was a good player even before this year he's having. |

I don't get this at all. We are not a contending team, but giving up picks and prospects instead of staying the course is gonna hurt us past this year. |

If you think a guy who scores 30 goals is a bottom six player you are delusional.
All of that "deep draft" stuff is nonsense too. They said last year's draft was the weakest draft in ages and a lot of good players have come out of it already. Take that draft stuff with a grain of salt.
We need a right wingers. find better solutions that trading for one that fits into the team well. |

Trust me, i'm not a fan of giving up assets for a pure rental either, but if we can sign Grabner for 2-3 years or whatever then i'm completely fine with this trade. We have drafted a lot over past 2-3 drafts or so and have started gaining a decent pipe line, so we're not breaking the bank giving up a 2nd for a guy who can play a top 6/9 role and gives us an immediate upgrade to secondary scoring to help us get over the hump and back into the playoffs. He also fits in pretty well with our current playstyle. We dont even know if/when Rykov will be leaving the KHL to come here, thats a big question mark.
Ray is showing the locker room that management believes we can make a push and get in, he's doing what he can(who knows what else happens until the deadline), and now the players need to go out and make it happen |
