I don't expect a trade, but if Bergevin really thinks it's better to keep Pacioretty around, he's clearly clueless (I know, it goes without saying)
The captain has checked out already. There is no turning back for him. - stinger67
I'll never say a bad thing about Patch. When most players quit on Therrien last year, especially the 10M goalie, Patch worked his ass off every night till the end, leading by example.
Now he clearly wants out, cannot blame him. Good bye and good luck. |

Well, if Molson really trusts him for this rebuild/retool/re(frank) thing...he doesn't have a choice but to trade Pacioretty now. Can't imagine a team is gonna pay higher to get him for 1 playoff run (at the end of the season) instead of 2... - BashCH
some GM is sitting out there just biding his time and will at some point steal Galchenyuk for something like a late first or some schmuck prospect. he'll dump the kid into a second line center role and he'll score 60 points per season for the next decade. |

If Bergevin stays in charge it's a strong possibility indeed... |

problem with Pacioretty is his playoff track record. it's hard for a GM to give up significant assets for a guy who might not be up for a playoff run. |

Read an article yesterday that said MB needs to get a legit top centre prospect even if he has to overpay for it...With where they're at now I kind of agree.
EDIT : Especially in a year where they'll get a chance to draft another top scoring winger... |

If you trade Galchenyuk you get a conditional 2nd round pick. If he plays more than 10 games at center during his current contract Habs get a 2nd round pick.

What is telling about the roster is that the guys they may have available are all bums.
Schlemko? Benn? Morrow? Schlemko is a journeyman dman, Morrow is a guy who has had trouble breaking into the NHL. Benn is a bottom pair guy.
Up front? Plekanecs?
You wonder why your team poops the bed this season, when your roster is made up of nobodies.
The guys that have value are hard to spare ie Byron, Galchenyuk, Shaw etc |

I think they might get a 2nd round pick for plekanec and if so, they have to move him.
I also think there is too much wingers on that team and if so, you can move some.
The only problem is I feel they won't get the value that they should for them. Maybe Shaw since he is injury prone and has a long deal with a lot of $$$.
If you can get a good c prospect for Pacioretty, you do.

Well, at some point when you have 0 good centres and 8 "hard to spare" wingers you have to sacrifice 1 or 2... |
