Agreed. Draft and develop the best players available and then play a system that best suits the team’s overall strengths and weaknesses. You can always easily trade away young talented NHL’ers who don’t fit your system, not like opposing GM’s won’t be interested and it’s better than passing on a better prospect and ending up with a bust.
- Nucker101

Absolutely, just draft the best possible players you can and built a team, when you get there play to their strengths.

Bottom line: all those teams had rosters full of talented players. The low scoring Kings had Kopitar-Carter-Richards-Stoll down the middle and guys like Brown, Williams, etc on the wing to go along with a really strong d-core and a great goalie.

You need talent and depth to win.

There are different ways to dominate an opponent. Could be speed & skill, could be size and physical play, could be disciplined adherence to an effective system & structure.

The teams that will be successful over the next few years will probably be hybrids. With players careers getting shorter, the window for success is narrowing. Not enough time to draft and build a certain single style of team like LA did.

Several on here have stated that Gudbranson, might get us a 3rd, why would Jets give up either of those higher end young guys?
I would be fine with a 3rd and this guy;

I think we just might do that TBH. We have some guys who will be physical but still have speed. and guys that are speed/skill. We seem to be going with a good mix of things, but making sure everything has speed.

It looks good with a few of these kids but they're a long ways from home plate.

Like most fan bases we live in our own little world looking at our own prospects glowing over how good they are, but the fact of the matter is, all teams draft what they think are a few great kids.

Benning isn't doing anything different than any other GM. What he needs to do is keep finding more Boeser's and Pettersson's and way less Virtanen's and McCann's.

Time for the Canucks GM to be a leader not a follower. Build something that's others aspire to, be ahead of the curve.

LA just played to the strengths of the players they drafted, so did the Blackhawks.

100%
But they didn't win by playing with speed, they used other strategies. not to say they are slow, speed just wasn't their style.

I noticed McCann is still getting scratched. I loosely watched his first game back after sitting and he looked hungry and was in on a goal right away after battling... then he took two hits in one shift and spent the rest of the game jumping out of the way of contact and his line got a couple more goals with him nowhere to be seen in the replays.

I thought he was edgy and not easily intimidated before he made the NHL. I didn't think he was going to be like this but he may be getting more shy as he goes. This very well could be from starting him too early like you've been saying.

Canucks have had multiple offers on gudbranson but main goal for team is signing him to a multi year contract

For (frank) sakes

chance this is management driving up cost. But... canucks.. and linden... so i doubt it

I’m okay with either of the following:

1) Smokescreen to drive up price and he’s sold to the highest bidder

2) They sign him to a discount contract that is no longer than 3-4 years and then trade Edler at the draft.

#1 is more likely

Gonna lol if they sign him to big money for 5-6 years and keeps Edler/Sedins/Vanek as well.

If they do that I'm seriously done with this management group. Can't support them if they continue to trip over their own stupidity.

Either EG, Tanev or Edler needs to be traded. They need to recoup assets this year at the TDL. Hopefully this is just a smoke screen

Hes probably wishing he would have taken that offer from florida now

Think he turned down 6 yrs 5 mil per.. That decision is going to cost him probably 20 million.
