Can they send Boeser to the draft instead of Linden? Things seem to go Brock's way more often than not.

Stetcher and Hutton both made the team coming out of collage. As did Boeser, if a team gives an unproven rookie a guarantee of playing time it's a mistake in my eyes.

Tanev also came out of Collage, well "Technical Collage" I think he was going for a 2 year degree in Refrigeration.

It would sure beat Luongo drafting Schroeder.

The Portland Winterhawks are the latest CHL team to ask a government to exempt it from paying players min. wage of $11.25/hr.
Without exemption, team says it will “declare bankruptcy or relocate."

I havent met any true jets fans that actually think he is going to be a good player for them. He is incredibly slow. He is literally a younger gudbranson

They can flip him for Lind and a 2nd

Just imagine how hard this team would be to play against with Gudbranson jr. and senior patrolling the crease!

Brock and EP will feel so safe while they spend 60% of their shifts trapped in their own zone

Several on here have stated that Gudbranson, might get us a 3rd, why would Jets give up either of those higher end young guys?
I would be fine with a 3rd and this guy;

Not great goals scored numbers for an offensive D man and injured all season. Admit it. It was the fact he's got a twin brother that caught your eye wasn't it?

Wouldn't Benning's old school mentality be to obtain size and grit? Sam is soft and skilled. Either way, glad we didn't trade up.
- CanuckDon

I would have traded virtanan and McCann for Sammy in a heart beat.
I know it would have meant no giddy but that's a sacrifice i would make 2 days out of 3.

1 of Edler/Tanev were involved

Tallon preferred Edler, but I’m not sure if he veto’d the trade or if Tallon himself decided to just draft Ekblad instead of doing the trade.

I read that Benning said, in an interview, that he saw the game changing two years ago to more of a speed game. So 2015 or 2016. So no, it's Bennings old school mentality.

Well LA did win in 2014, and they won by playing a style that was not super fast like the game is today. The current Cup winner usually sets the tone for what teams look to build. Even Chicago didn't play as much of a speed/skill game as they are trying to do now. They won 3 cups playing a defensively responsible game where they would tire the opponent out. That last true speed/skill cup was Pitts.

You can win in a variety of different ways, that LA team was built to play old school hockey but were full of players that the corsi nerds loved, not Gudbransons.

Time for the Canucks GM to be a leader not a follower. Build something that's others aspire to, be ahead of the curve.

LA just played to the strengths of the players they drafted, so did the Blackhawks.

That fact still remains that 2010-2015 the cup wasn't won by speed/skill. it was won by teams that had a lot of the old school mentality. Chicago was prob the best blend of old school and speed/skill. Pitts was the first pure speed/skill team to do it in a long time. So with boston and LA winning 3 of the last 4 cups going into 2014 draft, i can see why there had not been a mentality change in Benning yet.

Agreed. Draft and develop the best players available and then play a system that best suits the team’s overall strengths and weaknesses. You can always easily trade away young talented NHL’ers who don’t fit your system, not like opposing GM’s won’t be interested and it’s better than passing on a better prospect and ending up with a bust.

I think we just might do that TBH. We have some guys who will be physical but still have speed. and guys that are speed/skill. We seem to be going with a good mix of things, but making sure everything has speed.

Bottom line: all those teams had rosters full of talented players. The low scoring Kings had Kopitar-Carter-Richards-Stoll down the middle and guys like Brown, Williams, etc on the wing to go along with a really strong d-core and a great goalie.

You need talent and depth to win.
