Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks close out 2017 vs. Kings; Will Lockwood out for Team USA The Vancouver Canucks will wrap up their 2017 calendar year by looking for a second-straight when when they host the Los Angeles Kings, while Canucks prospect Will Lockwood will miss time after being injured in Friday's outdoor game at the World Junior Championship.

Olli Juolevi.... looking forward to seeing him.

As for Vanek.... man, I do not want to trade him if he is an essential part of Boeser's success and run at the Calder but I understand the long term gains of doing so.

I wasn't a fan of the Vanek signing either as I thought it would take opportunity away from Boeser and Virtanen making the team, turns out that was false and he'll be a good TDL asset they can flip for a decent pick.

Hes really hot or cold it seems, seven out of the past ten games he went pointless but picked up ten points in the other three games. I don't think that's sustainable but I'd like to see him fetch a 2nd rounder in the draft.

I cannot believe we are in a Lame-Duck position with the GM. It's too bad no one reads newspapers anymore... we lost Ian McIntyre and Tony Galligher to radio and internet stints .... no one to put this story on the red hot front burner of which it needs to be.

Is that a vote of confidence for our GM?

If he takes advantage of the signing and flips him for a good pick then he's doing his job, hopefully that's what happens.

I liked the signing much more than Gagner, thinking that it would force Boeser/Virtanen to play much better to earn the spot. I am glad he has been a good mentor, though I was hoping he would spend more time with Jake showing him how to be a good net front guy

And for those worried about Boeser playing without him, they havent been a line very much this year and there are only 20 games after TDL; trade him and bring him back in the summer if they want to. Boeser will be fine

No loss with either one.
One is a cheerleader and the other blindly hates the team & management.
The Canucks are one of 4 or 5 teams the have a GM on the last year of their contract. It's happened before and will happen again.

I agree with you on Gagner... yes he has an overtime goal and yes he is good with Vanek and Boeser but 99% of the time he is just Chaput with a better press agent.

You are right Marwood but I guess I am trying to say that there are three flipping sports radio stations and no one championing this story the way it should be. (Not like 650 would dare to say anything anyways)

Make Benning Head Scout and give Ken Holland a ring.

Or they are negotiating with Benning for an extension.
Treliving went all of last season on his last year and then was re-signed by the Flames in the off season.
It is not an anomaly to have a GM finish out his contract before being re-signed or extented.
This is just hysteria for hysteria's sake.

I understood the signing, the team needed C depth, but he has not played much in that role and I really did not like the term. If Gagner was on a 1-year deal like Vanek/Burmistrov, I would actually be happy with his 18 points in 38 games

From assistant GM to GM to Head Scout, probably doesn't sit well with JB. Perhaps that's why this is dragging on.

Holland or??? I don't care as long as it's an upgrade in the role.

I'm sure 1040 is freaking out about it. That is their purpose now to throw the Canucks under the bus at every opportunity.

Holland is garbage.
Would you take a humiliating demotion at work and stay on?

Holland is exactly what Aquilini wants in a GM, compete at all cost, he'd be very bad for the Canucks at this stage IMO.
