Why wouldn’t we keep him? I don’t understand 47% of you. It all depends on the trade return. If we get a 2nd round pick or higher then yes, trade him. If we don’t? Sign him on another one year contract. He has been a nice addition.
- CanuckDon

Id take any pick and just let JB do his thing and hopefully find something.

Vanek can be resigned or replaced via another signing. Its not about liking the player and what he brings its about setting the team up down the road. I do like what he brings and no problem with him coming back but there will be plenty of UFAs of similar calibre.

Because he will take a spot from a better, younger, faster player.

Which player is that?

Sorry, I was being sarcastic for all the people who hated it this offseason because he was taking a spot from Goldy, Boeser, JV.

Fair compromise.

I voted to trade him but not just for the sake of trading him. A prospect or 2 might do it, as well.

- Marwood

I voted not to trade him only because a potential return wasn’t mentioned. I’d rather keep him around then trade him for a 4th. Hopefully we are offered a 2nd round pick though and he is traded and then resigned in the summer

All of those and Jannik Hansen are worth an add. Could probably get him for the league minimum. He would be good to play with Gaudette, give him a defensively responsible winger to help him transition.
- mauryballstein

I watched the Northeastern game last night, man Gaudette is a monster. He really is the full package and I'm pretty sure he's close to being NHL ready. Although he only had an assist, he had the game on his shoulders. He got wheels, plays smart defensively, got a monster of a shot (plays the off wing on the PP like Boeser), he actually hit 2 posts off one timers. He plays a lot of minutes in all situations and does it with heart, really looking forward to him in a Nucks jersey next year as I don't think its worth it to burn a year of ELC, I'd rather let him play out on the 4th line the same way HOrvat did.

He's been a consistent player throughout his career. He had better numbers in Edmonton. I think he's just the same as Gagner. Gagner's career pace is around 45 points a season. He's currently on pace on a poopty Canucks team for 38.

Cogliano has a career pace of around 35 per year and this year no different, I believe he's on pace for 36 points.

At their age, they kind of are what they seem to be. You probably have to pay them around that 100k per point

- manvanfan

Fair points and his first few seasons (Cogliano) in EDM were pretty good I'll give you that...his last few there weren't as stellar but fairly consistent.

Cogliano didn't break 20 goals until he got to ANA however. Gagner also showed with support and better players in CLB what he can do. Like most players line mates and support is key. Hard to say what Cogliano could accomplish here with what we could give him to work with. With Pettersson and maybe Gaudette in next season Cogliano or Grabner could be a possible fit here if the price is right.

Already signed for next season
Eriksson Horvat Boeser
Goldy Sutter Gagner

Essentially 2-3 forward spots available (Sedin(2), Vanek)

Lockwood out remainder WJHC.
- LordHumungous

That kid plays hard balls out. Seems though he may be fated for DD like hockey end. Maybe even before he makes the NHL at this pace. Hope he makes some adjustments to his game to avoid that. Lockwood could have a good future fit with Canucks.

I can't see them coming back. To me they are this season's Jagr's. 46 points last season for Jagr and couldn't get a contract till very late. Just too slow for today's game. They can't back check even if they try.

After watching the highlights from this game, Ryan Merkley should be moved to forward because he honestly doesn't care about playing D. If that is how he plays on a regular basis, I wouldn't even take him in the 2nd round.

- manvanfan

The kid is horrific, I've been saying this since last year when he was -41 plus we already have a terrible, undersized defender in Stecher.

If we get top 10, Evan Bouchard is hands down my pick, but having said that I havent seen Boqvist (and wonder why he didnt make the WJs) or Ty Smith play yet.

Glad we got to see a him play a couple games. Hopefully the injury isn't serious.

He has much better hands then I thought he did. Some described him as Hansen type, speed, gritty.

Maybe a full time Canuck someday if he can stay healthy.

i'll give you younger and faster , but we have no up and coming young players that are better right now and likely even at the start of next season

Any pick? You crazy! He’s got a couple good years left and at his price and production...you can’t replace him in FA and expect that many points. High pick, do it, a 4th - no way. Plus he’s got chemistry with boeser (funny how it seems anyone who plays with boeser has chemistry and gets points) - dam he’s good
