I wonder if him shutting up is taking the high road, or embarassment. I mean it took all these years right?
I think we all know the answer to that. - prock
We shouldn't be so narrow minded as to assume it can only be one of the two possibilities you presented.

Really bizarre comment.
By your logic all teams except for the Penguins would have been happier to have missed the playoffs entirely.
Sens will start the season with the best #1 D on the planet in their line up and a minimum of 3 high end rookies breaking into the line up.
How could you not be excited for next year. The Sens play in Sweden at the beginning of the season (against Colorado) and they have an outdoor game at Landsdowne Park. Awesome season coming.

I'm still trying to figure out what I'd do if I was Ottawa's GM.
I guess it depends on the lottery... but say its a 3rd/4th/5th pick overall.
Does Karlsson want out? If so, I think you need to give up the pick this year, and trade away other assets as well... and go full tank.
But if Karlsson wants to stay, now you gotta balance fan support, and making smart hockey moves. The smart move is still to trade him, Andersen, and the rest of the vets, and start from scratch.. so you still give up this year's pick, and draft high next year.
But how embarrassing would it be if they gave up this year's pick, stripped their roster down, and wound up drafting outside of the top-5 next season? Even though Ottawa should be the worst team in the league next year, the lottery makes that a real possibility. That being said, if you keep the pick this year, and keep the core together(lol), do you make other moves to improve the team, at the cost of possibly giving up more futures, or do you just accept the embarrassment of possibly giving up a 1st overall pick for what amounts to a lateral trade at best.
I also wonder what they'd get if they traded Duchene away. Maybe a 1st and a 3rd straight up, from a playoff team? They've burned a year of his contract since acquiring him, and Ottawa and Colorado's records since the trade don't make him look super valuable.
He's on-pace for 57 points this season, but when you consider that he hasn't hit 60 in 4 years, and he's pretty defensively inept. The 6M cap hit for what amounts to a 2nd line C... I mean, maybe that year being burned off is a good thing?

I agree. That would be a poopty cap to a poopty season to have no 1st thats pretty much now guaranteed to be top 5.
Fascinating situation. It then forces them to try to be competitive next season.. but If they move Karlsson.. they are toast. Maybe they save face and get a nice 1st back from Karlsson?
so many ways this can play out |

The Sabres went full Rommel last night and out tanked the Sens securing last place in the process. Despite this ?achievement? the Sens remain last in our hearts. |

Well now that they have not last place locked up, we'll have to see if they mail it in the rest of the season. Although, I'm not really sure how we'd be able to tell if they're trying or not. |

Doesn't matter.
We now know that if Toronto loses, you will be here to troll, failing to see the difference between an organization with a bright future and one that is completely in the toilet.
If Toronto wins, you will continue to run away from your stupidity in search of a pair.
