For all of Sanheim's drool-inducing skills, it seems like he needs time in LHV.
For all of Myers' drool-inducing skills, it seems like he needs time in LHV AND some injury luck.
I feel like Sanheim isn't making the team this year but definitely will next year.
Can Myers even stay healthy enough to develop? |

I've got a feeling, a feeling deep inside, that a) we'll be happy Raffl wasn't taken in the expansion draft and b) Morin makes the team out of camp.
Also the Patrick, Konecny, Lindblom trio is interesting |

Agreed on (a) and (b).
And that kid line sounds fantastic, but I really want G to play with the kids. I think he'd thrive with Konecny and Lindblom. |

Weren't most of us saying Sanhiem might come along in the NHL late in the season, if at all this year? I'm not shocked that he's having ups and downs against NHL level talent right now.
Lindblom is exciting. His frame and board play reminds me a bit of Simmonds. Kid could turn into an absolute pain in the butt to play against if he maintains trajectory.
Patrick seems to be getting his bearings but still managing to hold his own. |

JMO, Sanheim isn't ready. That's fine.
Lindblom is already our best LW, IMO. I've seen enough.
I'm cool with Nolan Patrick as 4C and figuring out the game from there. |

Yeah, I'm torn on keeping the 3 together or splitting them up to play with G |

Hope for bounce back for both Raffl and Laughton. Today as a start they looked good.
I agree, although only one game, Sanheim will need a bit more seasoning in the A. |

Raffl is and has always been better than Dale Weise. He was a monster today and looked vintage form. People can talk about his new muscle all they want -- he has ALWAYS been a rock fending off guys, combined with plus skating and hockey sense. If it wasn't for trying to prove that UFA contract right, Weise should be battling for a spot just like these guys today. But it seems management has elevated Weise above the others by dint of sitting today. If he's gifted top 9 minutes it's pretty meh though not horrible. I'd rather Raffl played with Coots-Jake than Weise. That trio has always been a force.
What I want to know is who the odd man out is. We can probably assume Read is outside looking in, much as I like him. But there has to be one more. Laughton looked really good as a 4C candidate. Happy for him for today at least. Lehtera was respectable too -- he looked like an NHLer at least. But then one of them or Weise has to sit (see above). I really don't know what happens barring injury to trim it to 12 starters. |

Sanheim has always been a slow starter at every level. It's 1 preseason game. I expect he gets sent down in a numbers game (or if he doesn't pick it up to put the nail in it), but he already had a better all around year in the AHL than Hagg/Morin have ever had. People can say he just needs more AHL time to get better for vague reasons, but he already was pushing beyond that level the 2nd half of last year. He could go down, do well again, and come up and find he still needs to adjust to the NHL and do the learning there.
Hopefully he can be a mid season call up in place of MacDonald. If there is a God. |

Pre exhibition game Flyers Buzz : Sanheim is ready to play in the NHL. Post game : Sanheim not making the team this year. Probably won't play this year but maybe stop jumping to conclusions and let camp/ pre season play out.
Nice to see Morin and Hagg play solid today, starting to feel good about this year. Definitely have a few unknowns with all the young guys that will be playing but I like what seems to be coming together from Hextall's vision.

Pretty ideal to me. At least the top 9. I don't particularly care about the 4th line's makeup. But that lineup doesn't have Weise, and I think they want him in there based on what they've done with him in camp. It's a mystery how they will decide who is 12 and who is 13. But Flip on the 4th line is fine by me. Don't think they actually do it though or run that top 9. I think they'll jam him in there. |

Who goes to line 4 though? They have a glutton of 3rd liners, albeit the youth movement in in effect.
Weal? I hope he doesn't get 4th line minutes. I really don't want anyone outside of Laughton, Lehtera, Filpula, or Weise. Any 3 of those is a better 4th line we've seen in a long time. |

I think the Giroux and Patrick lines could be good bets. I think LW next to Cootercek is open. They have it gifted to Weise because Couturier showed chemistry with Weise's skate boot for 2 weeks last season and they want to validate his presence. I think Raffl is the best option. I think Flip could get it when the season starts because they like him and want him in a top 9 role. Which leaves the rest battling for the 4th line, most likely Lehtera/Laughton for 4C. But if they play like today both probably deserve to be in. Weise, Flip, and Lehtera are just so unnecessary. At least Lehtera was just a cap dump. |

It is unfortunate that the sample size for Sanheim to make the team is small. His skills are many.
However, he made as many mistakes during that dopey rookie game than he did good poop. Honestly, if he was ready for the NHL, he should have dominated that poop.
He didn't. Actually, I thought he was just OK.
Morin, OTOH, during that game looked steady. He could have fought half the Isles rookies team, but didn't. That hug fest he had doesn't count. He looked like he knew what he was doing at every step of the way. |

Raffl is my choice. Would be happy about that.
Flip is tolerable. Not thrilled but tolerable, he got the job done after the trade last season
Weise. No. If he sees double digit minutes...no. |

Can I just say I was left looking for answers when fighting majors were given out to both players when Morin didn't have his gloves off nor did he throw a punch. The other guy has his gloves off and threw 3 punches to the back of Morin's head.
what. |
