That's a cop out on follow up post negating what I suggested. You need something to replace Sedins. Don't be stuck with contender caliber so try to be realistic. We are talking losing team and replacing old and slow vets. - Nuck4U
its not a cop out. Its being realistic, see my most recent post. You have no players who are cracking top 25 in any major statistical field. Sedins aren't 1st line players, Bo may be 1st line center by default, but he is most certainly slated as a 2nd line center right now. Stop putting lipstick on a pig, call it what it is. We have no proper 1st line compared to the majority of the NHL teams.
Canucks have 1 player in the top 100 for points last year. Bo Horvat with 53 points comes in at 94....
Canucks have 1 player in the top 110 for goals scored, Bo Horvat with 20 and comes in at 102....
Henrik Sedin ranks 61 in Assists with 36 in 82 games.
We have no first line quality players currently. - Codes1087
Unfortunately this is our reality until someone like Boeser/EP/Bo can really step into that top50 for points. I agree, we have no offensively elite forwards currently that are legit top-line players. We just have to be patient and hope Boeser is the first of that new top-tier to emerge.
He's RH and made a living being the net front on the powerplay. Sign him up and then we no longer need to see Sutter's scrawny frame on the PP - WhiteLie
Sutter is best suited to play all-defensive minutes. He's a bottom 6 guy that maybe gets some pp2 time, but that should be it.

This. The defense is also lacking high end talent. Tanev is a #2/#3 dman that needs a good PMD to make up for his lack of offense. Edler has declined/regressed and also can't carry a top 4 pairing, he needs to be the 2nd best dman on a pairing these days if he's getting top 4 mins.
Stecher/Hutton are skilled young dmen, but both are playing way bigger roles than they should be. On decent team, both guys are sheltered depth dmen with upside.
I like MDZ, I think he's a great fit with Tanev, but that's far from a legit #1 pairing. More like a great #2 pairing or below average #1 pairing.
Gudbranson, I'd rather not get into it again. But to me he's a #5 dman that can only play top 4 minutes if carried by a really good top 4 puck moving dman.
Not really lol..rather keep the youth in the AHL and let them light it up and gain some confidence instead of getting lit up every night in the NHL. Goldobin probably feels he should be on the team and I'm sure Boeser has his eyes set on a spot as well but I'd rather let them join JV in the AHL and hopefully Utica actually scores some goals this season.
Let the 4th line + Gudbranson/Pedan run around late in blowout losses

Nothing really screams intimdation like Dorsett, Burmistrov and Gaunce/Megna

we need to put an end to the poms poms and stop dreaming. This team is not good. - Codes1087
If Vanek signs and Gagner is as advertised we are adding some pretty good point production but you are correct...this team needs serious work especially on D. I think Marky will be ok.
But I do get the Vanek thing as it is a business and they need to put a few more asses in the seats.

Agreed.
Just was watching some of Vanek's goals from last season, the guy is still tough to move in front and still has the hand-eye. Scored a lot of goals from areas that VAN wasnt particularly successful in last season

Yeah, he's still a good offensive/PP player, but he's one of those guys who's totally useless when he's not producing. Terrible defensively and soft as butter so he needs to be given sheltered minutes at 5v5..problem is that most of the Canuck forwards need those minutes too
I think he'd be a better fit for a contending team that needs PP/secondary scoring help and has the horses to play the tough minutes so he can be sheltered and do his own thing without having to be relied on too heavily either.
Pretty funny how back when the Canucks were contenders, pretty much any decent UFA got signed for decent money and the TDL was a seller's market and now times have changed when the Canucks suck ass. A guy like Vanek could have been useful to the team back then, especially at a cheap cap hit.
This is a possible direction out of camp and not necessarily a bad move. But the 4th line isn't a goon line that would intimidate anyone let alone see the ice. There are signed waiver eligable players that could play on 4th if you want to waive the rookies. Labate is waiver exempt still.

Yeah, but realistically, that's about as "goon" as you can get with the Canucks
