Lou's contract was only bad because of term (and now, recapture penalties). Cap hit, he peaked at 9.5% of the cap through the team's most competitive period. Price will amount to about 14% and still isnt considered serious contenders

If the Sedins are to be replaced, surpassed or retired then a bona fide first line needs to be established this season.

Putting too much pressure on a rookie like BB or young players trying to find consistency in Sven or Granlund may be too much for that role. But Bo will have to shoulder it as there is no one else.

So give Bo vet support. TG should try as 1st line: LE BO Gagner

Looks like Virtanen, Dorsett, Pedan, Hank, Dank, Hutton, Edler among the group skating right now

While I like what the Habs currently have on their roster, I hate how bad MB has mortgaged their future for now. I understand the reasoning, you have the best goalie in the world in his prime, but man are they going to be bad once price is gone.
- Codes1087

Very true. There are ways to get a 50 pt guy like Drouin into your roster without giving up top prospects like Sergachev. I get it too...but they are still minus so many ingredients to make the conference final, if they even make the PO's that is.

Can't wait for the Vanek comments if they sign him.

Why is Vanek a better option then LE and his $6M got to show up contract?

We love BB to succeed. But as a rookie to take a 1LRW role for the season too much pressure. Same with Granlund who just had a break out season. One season isn't much. Give him a secondary role for consistency in contract year.

I hope the Vanek rumours are true, I always liked him from his BUF days and though he isnt the same player, I think he is a good fit

I see your edit. Okay get that you think Gagner is not good enough.

I liked him being a RS and speedy for Bo. Plus he's signed on the team. Gagner has been around a long time. Now in prime years might have learned to be more consistent and capable. So for next couple years better option over fading Vanek.

Issue for me there is Vanek is a flip signing and won't establish a 1st line past this season. Thus, not establishing replacement for Sedins.

Drouins going to be a really good player, but man I am not sure you give up Sergachev while already giving away Subban and your defensive prospects cupboard is bare. Juulsen and Mete are your promising D prospects now? yikes..

Beauleau for a 3rd too and let Markov walk. that team is a head scratcher

Me too, seems like an ideal sign and trade player. Worked for Detroit last year!

Team is gonna suck anyway, so let's goon it up and keep the young guys in the AHL

Eriksson - Horvat - Gagner
Sedin - Sedin - Rodin
Baertschi - Sutter - Granlund
LaBate - White - Dorsett
Gaunce

Del Zotto - Tanev
Edler - Stecher
Hutton - Gudbranson
Pedan, Biega

That's 5 fighters on the roster

If a 1st line that is consistent and able to withstand season rigors can be established that's a good first step to replacing Sedins. The second step is making a 2nd line to bump them further down and closer to retirement.

Sutter was paid the big contract to fill in as a second line center for a season or two. He's now in his prime. Time to prove it. Trick is he's worse then Kessler at using his wings. So need savvy wingers who can work around him. Two forwards on the rise who are in contract years to prove if they are top 6 wingers are Sven and Granlund.

For a good team this is a 3rd line. But we are talking current Canucks and can they outshine both offensively and defensively old and slow Sedins. So, 2nd line suggestion for TG is: Sven Sutter Granlund

As much as the Sedins have declined, I'll still take them over Sven/Sutter as my 2nd line LW/C. Have Granlund/Boeser/Rodin on their RW depending on who looks the best in camp/pre-season.

Sven/Sutter/Granlund is a meh 3rd line, let alone a 2nd line.

That's a cop out on follow up post negating what I suggested. You need something to replace Sedins. Don't be stuck with contender caliber so try to be realistic. We are talking losing team and replacing old and slow vets.
