Very few teams would take lupul right now. Vegas has Miller and could add salary, but we might have to throw in a prospect in that deal even though Miller is not that great. The teams mentioned by that bonehead Berger are Calgary and Colorado. For a guy like Hamilton a lot more would have to be included. An I'm not crazy about Barrie. - winsix
i think we can find a team to dump lupul on.
would probably cost a 2nd. only question is do we want to pay the price. |

and more. but it doesn't clear cap space until day 1 of the season.
brown will be signed before training camp starts. - Tumbleweed
I think there's still a move or two to be made. There are just too many wingers hanging around.
If they want to play a legit scoring top 9:
1. Marleau, Matthews, Nylander
2a. JVR/Kapanen/Leivo, Bozak, Marner
2b. Komarov, Kadri, Brown
If they want a scoring, hard checking 4th line
Leivo, Moore, Hyman
If they want a hard hitting, defensive 4th line
Martin, Moore, Hyman
I just see JVR, Kapanen, Leivo and even Soshnikov with only two spots for all of them.
Something has to give.

maybe nashville needs a scoring winger sooner rather than later.
Hartnell won’t replace neal’s goal-scoring. - Tumbleweed
I think Carolina much better trading partner than Nashville. They have lots of defensemen and nothing up the middle. A package that included Bozak might be the way to go.

From that article:
What about LTIR?
Players can be placed on LTIR on the last day of the off-season in preparation for the first day of the season. However, LTIR does not remove a players cap hit, it instead allows a team to exceed the salary cap. Further details on LTIR are available on our LTIR FAQ
So they announce the signing on the last day of the off-season.
I know we've been through hell with the last few GMs, but I have a lot more faith in this group; I mean, Pridham's sole purpose with the organization is to manage the cap.
I know this is the dog days so the media has to write about something, but this isn't something the Leafs haven't prepared for. |

A full line too many, plus need to unload Marchenko and Marancin. Whether a player has options will matter as well. Kapanen can be sent down without clearing waivers, Rychel can't. Fehr needs to be traded - an ok 4th line centre with a low cap hit.

We have a lot of wingers Winnie, we are thin at C.
Losing Bozak would create a whole lot of hole up the middle.
Pick a team that needs scoring wingers and has D depth. That has to be who Leafs' brass are talking to. |

The only potential trade partners I see for D are:
MIN (Dumba)
WPG (Trouba, Myers)
CAR (Faulk)
ANA (Vatanen, Manson) |

I think Hyman has the capability of scoring 15+ goals playing with Matthews. 20+ would be a career year, but anything is possible. - mikeinbuffalo

They're fine. I know at the moment it looks like they put themselves in a poor spot cap wise, but they haven't. Wouldn't shock me if they already had Brown signed to a deal and are just waiting until October to send it to the NHL head office. |

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
Same with Marleau: that year 3 has been sorted out ahead of time with all parties involved, which means they have multiple chutes they can pull (LTIR, trade to cap floor team, etc.).

So Johnson goes for $5m x 7, but Marner and Nylander are supposed to go for $8m+ - As_I_See_It
To be fair, I agree with you they won't get that much, but people are still hung up on Johnson's 14-15 season when he got 70-ish points.
He's 38 in 69 games and 45 in 66 games the last two years, with a couple soft injuries each year, which equates to just 0.61PPG (Bozak levels).
He's a very solid NHLer but he's not the stud centre people thought he'd be after that season. |

Centres on the Leafs Matthews,Nylander,Bozak,Kadri,Komarov,Hyman,Fehr, Moore
All of the above have played and can play centre. Babcock is on record as saying he wants Nylander at centre. We can afford to package Bozak, a prospect and a pick for a decent d-man. Needs to be quality RHD coming back |

And it's the age he did it at: into his 20s vs. teenage rookie.
Still, I think they lock those guys up at 6-6.5 @ 7 years and we're doing great. |

As a UFA JVR is definitely getting $7m. Look around at the comps.
If he's traded, that team will have the 8 year option and should be able to negotiate less of a hit for that extra year. It makes better sense. - underhill14
Agreed and who knows what might come back?too many variables! Do you get a season out of him?..or pay a late 1st and a prospect at the deadline! |

So.. because Lucic got 7 mill or whatever he got JVR is worth that?
JVR aint worth that and if he was the Leafs would keep him. - the_eye
Oposo ,ladd, lucic, ryan, Marleau, Radulov, Ericksson! Jvr is younger than most and better in some cases! If you have a legitimate first line center, say J.T.or Getz or Crosby, Seguin? Your going to be getting a 30g scoring winger all day long! Since arriving in toronto he's never played with a first line center! Hell even some would say never with a second line center! It's been bozak mostly if not exclusively! 7mil all day longgg! |

So....the Leafs would trade a veteran center and leave themselves short in the middle in order to acquire a defenceman who struggles even in a top 4 roll? This is the same Larry Brooks who pondered the idea that the Leafs might be willing to trade Mitch Marner for Ryan McDonagh. I think perhaps it would be wise to ignore anything coming from good ole Larry!!! - Kayakjack
No he didn't! is that a joke? And if not can someone please fine that! Christ that has to be! |

Bottom line, leafs need to trade out about $2M in salary to get brown signed for training camp.
At least one of Lupul, bozak, jvr or komarov are the likely to go.
I’d guess both jvr and lupul. - Tumbleweed
Fehr + Marncin + 2nd for Colin Miller done. cuts $2.25 Million off the cap.
