It's absolutely infuriating that the Flyers just don't re-sign Mason. |

This may sound dumb but if they moved MacDonald I would be interested in Phanuef. Ottawa needs to move him or possibly lose Methot or Cici in the expansion draft. I know he has 4 years left at 7mil but what if you cold get Ottawa to retain 50% and possibly take a contract like Read.
I think he could be a solid vet as your filtering in rookies on the back end and he can play some heavy minutes for you.
Again i would need to lose MacDonald first and the deal would have to be a win for me with Ottawa. |

Philadelphia Inquirer beat writer Sam Carchidi suggested that the Flyers might instead try to unload MacDonald to Vegas -- even if it meant adding draft pick assets as a sweetener -- and then use his $5 million of cap money to go all out to land unrestricted free agent winger T.J. Oshie for more scoring help up front. With all due respect to Sam, that seems to be a far-fetched idea for two reasons:
I'll add a third reason - the Flyers already have more forwards than they have room on the roster for. Even if they lose a guy like Raffl to Vegas. And RW is where the depth is greatest - Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Weise, Konecny and Weal can all play that position. |

Yes it is.He is still the best available option in my opinion.
Both sides must have really burned some bridges.

I think a straight up swap of Phaneuf for MacDonald does make some sense. Otherwise Ottawa could lose Ceci or Methot. |

since we're not resigning Mase (which angers me to no ends like seriously give me a better option for cheaper i dare you), i would be okay with shipping read/raffl and a 4th for Niemi and a 2nd |

Good stuff Bill. I have no problem with AMac being on the roster in 17-18, I just don't like him on the top pairing. Would it not make more sense to pair Gudas with Provorov on the top pair and let AMac team with rookie Robert Hagg? It would also have the added bonus of allowing Provorov to play his natural side which should help him when he is constantly matching up against the oppositions best players.
RE the goalies: They are still a bubble team at best in 17-18, so I'm not that concerned with who is in net next season. If they can do a deal along the lines of below, I'd be happy:
To Dallas: Matt Read
To Philly: Kari Lehtonen (with 2 million retained by Dallas) and a 3rd round 2018 draft choice.
Dallas undoes their logjam, doesn't add any cap dollars and gets Lehtonen and Niemi completely off the books after 17-18. Philly gets a solid goalie (I don't think any goalie was going to put up great numbers playing in Dallas the last couple of years) for an affordable price for one year, and eases their logjam at forward a bit.
Seems like a win/win to me. |

I think one side burned a bridge and that was Mase, far too much running of the mouth regardless if it was needed or not. He's the goalie, not the captain. Is he the better of the UFA goalies out there, probably but Hextall would probably like to just move on at this point. Too, no doubt in my mind Flyers will have a solid goalie this season just a hunch on my part. |

Yes Mason running his mouth had to be the reason why the Flyers chose to sign Neuvirth 2 months before that |

This would make some sense. I'd be willing to part with 4th to give Toronto a bit of incentive to do a deal with us. Not sure that they'd retain half, but I'd accept slightly less, say a minimum of 2.75 million per.
To Ottawa: AMac and a 2017 4th round pick
To Philly: Phaneuf with 2.75 million per season retained (cap hit now 4.25 million)
The Flyers would have a better player at a slightly lower cap hit for the next 3 years and they could, if they wished, buy out the last year of Phaneuf's deal and only be on the hook for roughly 60% of the buyout cap penalty, or more likely, they could just trade him with 750K retained. There would likely still be some interest in Phaneuf at that point with only 1 year at a cap hit and salary of 3.5 million.
edit: I'd even upgrade the 4th to Boston's 3rd if they would retain half of Phaneuf's deal. Phaneuf at 3.5 million is a significant upgrade over AMac at 5 million. |

Also, is anyone planning on going to the draft? I go to university in Chicago and am here working for the summer and thinking of going and I would love to meet up with other Flyer fans |
