I don't know.
Phaneuf is a pretty solid player who can give you 27-30 minutes a night on the top pair.
Ottawa is in a bit of a bind with him not waiving his NMC because now they need to protect Karlsson, Phaneuf and one of Methot/Cici. I see Phaneuf moved before Saturday. If you can get ottawa to take Read and retain 40-50% that's a solid deal. - J35Bacher
Short version: Phaneuf isn't good. Ceci isn't good. Phaneuf doesn't want to waive his NTC anyway. Ottawa would never trade Phaneuf and retain half his salary. Ottawa wouldn't want MacDonald because he's not good either.
In the end, this scenario is just Philly and Ottawa re-shuffling bad players except Ottawa taking on a lot more money.
You shouldn't want him at all with MacDonald on the roster. Some of the D prospects need to be playing in the NHL. - Feanor
The first thing i said was if they moved MacDonald.
I understand while he is here then there isn't a reason to bring in another vet. If you were to move him, right now i am not sure you have another top pair guy.
And yes I think Myers or Sanheim can be that guy but they aren't here right now and will need time once here to take that role.

Phaneuf for MacDonald saves Ottawa $9,000,000, and lets them protect both Ceci and Methot in the ED.
It may not be likely, but Provorov and Ghost are already established NHL regulars and there is not a scout that I've ever heard from who doesn't think, 100%, that Sanheim, Morin, Myers and Hagg will be NHL players. Can't say for sure that they are all top 4 guys or if any, save Provorov, will be top pairing guys. But I will be very surprised if, barring injury, all 6 aren't NHL regulars. - BiggE
Wasn't always the case for Hagg I feel, but didn't Bob McKenzie call him "NHL ready" this season? Or was that Myers, or even both? But I agree, I always love when a commentator or analyst during intermission brings up the Flyers d prospects and whoever is on is usually praising them
Ever since the Drouin trade last night, I was hearing how Montreal wasn't done and they had at least one more major move in them and I started thinking, which is never good, but have to throw this out here so everyone on this thread can call me crazy. So here it goes, What if there was a possible trade for G in Montreal. They have about 17 mil in cap space, a desperate need playmaking centers to play with the likes of Drouin and Pac, love French Canadian players, and Marc Berevin is under tremendous pressure to win this year if for nothing else show Carey Price that he should sign an extension in Montreal cause there going to try to win in his prime. Maybe if they packaged Galchenyuk+ Beaulieu and a pick it would ma sense for both teams. Flyers will be getting a Center in the draft that should be ready to play now, and have an abundance of centermen, G's regression has been duely noted over the last couple of seasons, and we would get younger and shed cap dollars we can use down the line. I understand that we wouldn't have a top line center next year, but the heir apparent to that throne should be coming at #2 pick. I also understand that per reports its much more likely that Galchenyuk gets flipped to Minnesota today for Brodin. I know it sounds crazy but I honestly it makes perfect sense for me. I leave this hear for you guys to rip apart and call me crazy. Good day Gentlemen and Lets go Flyers!!!

I'm assuming your making your determinations on the stats that you look at that you've talked about before. In your opinion based off this who are the more underrated and overrated defenders in the league?

Hagg's only question was his consistency and he seems to have answered that with his play with the Phantoms last year. No scout ever questioned that he has both the physical tools and hockey sense to be a succesful NHL player. Both McKenzie and Button have gushed about Myers and called him NHL ready and a flat out steal by the Flyers. Sanheim and Morin too, are ticketed for the NHL. I really can't see any of the 4 not being regular NHL players.

Why are we trading for a young D man when we got prospects that will be blocked that again most scouts say are ready now.
The time is now for Hagg and Morin. Later this or next season expect Sanheim and Myers to be knocking the door down.

Hagg just always seemed to be the Joe Blanton to the Halladay, Lee, Hamels, Oswalt amongst the group (kidding). But from the sounds of his season he just had he took a big step forward and is ready to get his shot at an NHL job. I fully expect Morin and Hagg to start the season and would be thrilled if one of Myers or Sanheim made Hexy's job difficult with great camps.

It's never terrible to have depth.
In his scenario if you got Beaulieu in that deal you could just waive Manning. Injuries happen. And until Myers and Sanheim are here you can run Beaulieu in your top 6.
You never know what happens or what deals present themselves.
The scenario presented had them eating half his deal or close to it - PhillySportsGuy
Just going to chime in to say I don't think any MacDonald deal will save the Flyers money. In terms of a phaneuf trade...I would expect the retained salary to come in around 2 million so the Flyers still carry 5 and the Sens carry 7. Phaneufs deal was front loaded and AMacs was backloaded....it wouldn't happen for that reason alone.
