Brennan is not an NHL defenseman and he could not replace MacDonald. - MJL
This. Brennan is fine for a point producing AHL defenseman, but he gets walked all over defensively in the AHL. |

When people have talked about Phaneuf it is not at his current price. It would have to be with money retained. - J35Bacher
Understood but the problems with Phaneuf aren't just his cap hit.
Phaneuf has 4 more years on his contract. That blocks Sanheim or Myers from coming up and forces the Flyers to protect him when the next expansion draft occurs.
In addition, he is slowing down when everything in this league is about speed.

I understand why some wouldn't mind getting out from under Giroux's deal -- I'm not blind, and I can be honest about what we are seeing -- but I'm still not quite there
Still think there's two or three more 55-65 point seasons in there, but it's dependent on him having a legit scoring winger in close to their prime years on his left side
I understand others might disagree, and I don't know 100 percent for sure that I'm right. But right now, at this moment, I don't think the Flyers get better by dealing Giroux

Any of you guys who have had 10+ full game viewings of 150+ prospects wanna tell me who some good 4th round sleepers are? |

Acquiring Phaneuf makes no sense for exactly the reasons you listed -- nothing against him, but he's got slow feet. Not saying he can't play, but this league isn't that way anymore

What are you guys smoking this morning. Adding one of the Stars two goalies is a step backwards! Oshie is not a high risk to score 30 goals surrounded by Backstroms and Kuznetsovs. He may be a risk in Philly but not in Washington and he will be resigned there. This whole blog was off this morning, imo |

For the record Phaneuf is better than all Flyer dman at the moment with the exception of Provorov. I guess you missed the playoffs, Phaneuf was key for the Sens and the main knock on him is his salary. |

I would prefer to keep G and I do think he will have a bounce back year. He'll be healthy going into the season and we also should have better depth this year, something Giroux and our team have lacked. I know it could be said getting #2 and the center we'll draft makes G expendable, but I think it gives Hexy more time on a decision such as that. We def take a step back if we traded him today; no one on our team or anyone coming back in the trade could replicate his scoring, playmaking, face-offs etc. |

Yes it is.He is still the best available option in my opinion.
Both sides must have really burned some bridges. - MBFlyerfan
Raanta, Fleury or Mason Raanta would be a beast but the Flyers are too dumb to think out of the box If they bring in a Stars reject I am done with this team! |

Better now in a vacuum, but not for four more years at $7 million per
Saying "the main knock on him is his salary" in a league with a salary cap is like saying the worst thing about a house fire is that all your stuff gets burned

I can't worry about the next expansion draft right now.
Also Sanheim and Myers have played a total of 0 NHL games. Also once up does that mean they are instant 20-25+ minute guys?
Gudas is on a resaonable deal. Couldn't I move him to make a spot? Hell i still am not sure Gostisbehere will be here for the long haul. |

I actually think Anders Nilsson could be low risk/high reward type player.
I don't want the Dallas goalies.
I think haveing Vegas take Fluery or Raanta and flipping them to Flyers would be a good move. |

They don't need to take bad contracts without being compensated in the expansion draft to reach the cap floor.
They have three months of free agency to get to the cap floor. - Feanor
Who wants to play for a team starting from the ground up and most likely no shot at a cup? Whoever Vegas selects, has to report to Vegas without the convincing UFA comes with. The expansion draft is pretty much a UFA draft except the contract are set. |
