Problem is AMac is a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy with a #1 contract. Flyers need a real compliment to Provorov but they don't currently have one so AMac gets the minutes.
Gudas is a 2nd pairing D, moving him up just exposes him like AMac.
Can't get rid of Gudas because he's the only grit on your back end.
So Ghost - Gudas is your proper 2nd pairing with any combination of Manning/Morin/Hagg for your third
I want no part of Phaneuf - why move AMac for another problem contract especially since Sanheim and Myers are on their way? |

You could always flip Beaulieu or whomever to get something of need. Again. more or less the overall idea variations of players and picks can be substituted. However, the idea of a G to Montreal for a nice package of players and picks is what Im suggesting - nonpoint22
A trade of Giroux has some merit, I just don't know if that's the right deal.

When people have talked about Phaneuf it is not at his current price. It would have to be with money retained.

According to Dave Isaac Hextall said 25-75% chance he's making a trade before roster freeze tomorrow. |

The idea that MacDonald would be difficult to replace is laughable. Assuming the 2 guys coming up this season are Morin/Hagg. That still leaves TJ Brennan, Travis Sanheim (two Ns? I always forget), and Phil Meyers (unlikely to make the jump) as replacements. On top of that, you can find a cheap stop-gap for this season somewhere in FA. It's not like there's absolutely no other options.
This idea that we HAVE to have a certain number of "veteran" players is also outdated. Gudas and Manning are "veterans" enough. - Diamondback424
Brennan is not an NHL defenseman and he could not replace MacDonald.

What's something you would need in a giroux deal?
I think any deal would need you to keep some salary or take a bad deal back, like Montreal would probably want to get rid of Plekanc's last year at 6 million. |

I'm convinced that if you were GM, no player would remain on the team for more than 6 months |

Huh
I asked for one move that everyone would make in yesterday's thread, but never offered mine
I'm still not sure what I'd do -- I don't hate the Flyers roster at this moment, even with its flaws -- so I'm curious what type of move Hextall would make
Shedding salary? Bringing in a better defenseman than MacDonald for that final protection slot, even if you don't move MacDonald in the deal (no interest in the AMac debate today)?
A scoring LW? A goalie?
Curious what Hextall would be looking at doing |

Depends.
Right now the Flyers are in a roster transition. they have youth coming. they have guys they can lose.
It all depends.
But I also think some people tend to overvalue guys. |
