I know people love pro comparisons and I've heard sanheim likened to bouwmeister. Would that be an accurate assessment of potential ? I also unlike this group think he should be in the ahl for another year evolving into that all situations guy instead of being shoved in the nhl to be a one dimensional sheltered player. |

1) Although a local columnist opined that Flyers 2014 first-round pick Travis Sanheim "has been
slow to develop" and may soon qualify as a "swing and miss," the reality is that Sanheim has improved by leaps and bounds since his draft year and, in fact, could have the highest NHL upside of any defenseman in the Flyers' system not named Ivan Provorov.
and this is why I don't pay any mind to any beat writers not named Bill |

Sanheim will be our Jay Bouwmeester
and I believe Crosby when he says he didn't mean to throw the water battle |

I only want to see Morin and Hagg with the Flyers at the start of the season. Sanheim and Myers can take some AHL time to start the season.
Provorov/MacDonald
Gudas/Hagg
Gostisbehere/Morin

The Pens and Nashville blogs are great.
Pens fans are bring every excuse to the table to defend crosby.
pk deserved it, the water bottle is slippery, the nhl likes it this way....blah, blah, blah

Awesome take on Sanheim, Bill!
I think this kid has done everything the organization asked him to do as well as mother nature has also helped a bit.
I think if he has a great summer program slated, he could really surprise some folks come opening night.
At the very least he may get in some games as a call up and really force the situation with some solid games. |

So true!! Not even sure the beats know what our cupboard even looks like and or progressed year to year.
Seems like only focus on NHL level mostly.

Pens suck.
Rangers suck.
It's easier if you just accept these as truths and ignore them entirely. |

I dunno. I just read the article and it seemed fine to me. Sure he could've showed some more introspect into Sanheim's progress vs. expectations, but it was a short article and most likely attempted to appeal to the occasional fan. Sam gave a lot of praise to Hexy but stopped short of calling him infallible by pointing out some misses or could-be-misses. It's a calculated bet on Sam's part and doesn't really hurt him if Sanheim turns out to be an above-average d-man. It's a bit misguided, but then again; so are most Philly fans. I think he was just trying to provide a balance of good, bad, and unknown. He could've picked a better example for bad, but it's not an egregious article or anything along those lines. |

As usual, great info. I don't know WHAT Sam was thinking when he bothered to write that entire article on Hexy's drafts. He is a good writer, and usually researches well. But that looked like he hadn't seen ANY hockey in the last half decade and merely looked at the draft charts and counted picks on the current NHL roster. Woefully misguided, patently incorrect, and ridiculously unfair. |

Meh. Donnellon's article is fine. The entire team and organization does indeed get an incomplete until they start to uh, ya know, play winning hockey again. |

It's not fine to label Sanheim as "slow to develop" while ignoring the progress he has made season to season. Pretty sure that's the point Bill was making.
Making the comparisons to other team's top draft successes is just more of the same lazy hindsight bull poop that frequents these threads. |

Of course I agree with these truths, but in honesty I have to admit I'm impressed by what the Pens have been able to do, without their number one franchise defenseman playing.
