That, or just keep stockpiling assets and let them all fight their asses off for spots on the team once they turn pro. Nothing motivates a player more than competition, especially if the competition is actually decent. Anyone who doesn't rise up to the challenge probably isn't someone you want on the team anyway.
It's why I'm perfectly fine with having logjams at positions, I say load up everywhere with as many extra picks/prospects as you can. None of that "omg but there aren't enough spots for all the young guys to play!"
That's BS, make them earn it.
I find it funny that the same people who are tired of the "country club" mentality are the same ones who want to gift young players spots, if you want a hungry team then it starts internally. Let the these guys fight amongst themselves and the cream will rise to the top. - Nucker101
In a perfect world I agree 100%.
But as the situation goes for the canucks right now they have to focus on developing the little talent they have. Unfortunately, that might be a bit unfair to the fringe guys busting their ass.
I love the idea of training camp battles but I hope the coaching staff can utilize that time to evaluate the players sufficiently enough before the start of the season. I would like to see consistency with players and lines during the regular season to stabilize the situation and let development and learning be top priority. |

Big difference between wanting young players to play at the end of the year when the games are meaningless and wanting these young players on the roster at the start of the year. The Sedin's should be limited to 12-15 minutes a night right now. If Willie won't play Goblin then send him to Utica asap - CanuckDon
Oh, I agree with that.
I'm talking about camp next year. People are worried about the logjam of wingers and dmen, I'm not. I'm perfectly fine with it, hell if you can find some more talented youth, bring them in for even more competition. |

WD was clear why Goldy sat last game. He gets another chance next game.
I'd do the same if i were WD. Nobody would force me otherwise. |

Didn't San Jose have better play makers for him to play with and yet he couldn't fit in there? - A_SteamingLombardi
He is still really young so there is no rush. He is still waiver exempt next season as well. |

Its getting better but still a long ways to go. |

I agree with that and I generally agree with drafting BPA for similar reasons. This should be the most competitive training camp in a long time. |

I'm all for playing Goldobin in games somewhere right now 100%. And yeah, enough with the AHL vets, yes they bust their asses but they'll be meaningless to this team in the long run.
I just mean in general, I'm perfectly fine with the team having an overload of youth at positions, it should be viewed as a great thing, not some sort of a problem that needs to be addressed with a trade. Keep acquiring as many draft picks and prospect as possible to shore up the weaker positions(like center) and strengthen the other positions even more so. |

I know you do...I may be biased but I still really like Trevor and I appreciate his candid interviews. - CanuckDon
The coach is trying to send a message to a kid that won't give effort on the ice, and the president comes out and undermines the message.
Considering that he's a guy who as a player accomplished most of what he did through effort, I think it's asinine. |

The message is simple bust your ass & earn a shot. Idc if an AHLer or not.
Players earn a spot no matter who they r and why a BO has been the best example.
Burrows & Hansen r both proof what it takes. |

He sounds a little entitled to me.
I've read that when he was 'reprimanded' in SJ he took it to heart and worked harder. Hopefully we see more of the same. |

I don't have an issue with this particular benching....I just generally question his deployment and clearly Linden does as well. Linden doesn't like his hesitation towards playing the youth. This isn't all about Goblin this isn't an isolated incident. His love affair with Megna, Bartowski, Vey, Chaput, Dorset etc. |

Hansen fetched a Goldy as potential. Right now the kid can show that JB was right & prove him right. Hansen played at 110% with less skill & lasted a long time & still is good but Goldy can only get better if he cares to. Up to him & nobody else to figure it out. No doubt his skill set is good but skill alone is not enough & sooner or later he's got to grow up & stop polishing his Bimmer. |

Hopefully Trevor isn't telling him "don't worry about what Willie says he'll be gone soon enough and we'll tell the new guy to play you" |

All of those players r fringe NHLers. They work harder & get the playing time whether or not we like it but its very clear if u want playing time u force the coach to do it. What has Goldy done to force WD into playing that others have not? Biega on the wing tells me much. |

Things are grossly exaggerated in here. Hutton and Stetcher play 20 minutes per game, Bo plays 18. Boeser and Tryamkin play 16:30 + per game......
He tries to make them earn it, absolutely nothing wrong with that. |
