In what sense? Multiple trades? I, personally, wouldn't be trying to sell anything to the fans, I'd be trying to build through the draft before I did anything else.
The Aquilini family is worth about three billion dollars, they don't need to make profits from the team, they've made enough money in franchise equity/value. If they truly wanna win they need to be patient with the process of building. To date they've never had to do that, the team had it when they bought it from McCaw. - LeftCoaster
Yes they do, this is a business and the moment the Aquilini's aren't pleased with the level of profits folks lose their jobs. It is an extremely corporate environment. |

No they don't...I think they now understand the profits will come when they get competitive again. |

Yes they do. I am not sure you understand how corporations work Lefty. This is high finance not a golf course or a mine in northern Siberia. They have monthly board meetings and they discuss profits. they don't discuss tanking and 5th round draft picks. I realize some organizations are run by eccentric billionaires that only care about championships but that isn't our owner. His people are running a business. |

I don't agree with that at all. They don't "need" anything from a business financial standpoint from the Canucks. I think that was their mindset until they realized they can't make the team be competitive forever.
Smart owners will understand the process that it takes to make a team competitive. At the end of the day all that matters is winning, which won't come to Vancouver using any other method than building through the draft first and foremost. Salary cap world!
If they have some bad years, which they're going to, and are, fans will stay away, because that's how the fans of Vancouver are.
However, if they make some good picks and start to get competitive again, the fans will come back, it's happened like that for many cycles around here.
Chasing your tail to keep your fans happy is what the Leafs did for decades, they always wanted to compete, but never made as much as a Cup final. Meanwhile teams that used the draft and accepted down years kept winning Stanley Cups. - LeftCoaster
Good picks as a result of good positioning, whether its via acquiring another high pick through the trade route or lucking out. Trading for a top 6 scorer will come with a huge price tag, fans will go crazy when they give up what it takes to land that kind of player. We're still hearing about McCann for fuks sake!
Stay the course.

I am split between the two of you on this one, because they are merging their private business with hockey business.
On one hand, I agree that the Aquilini group wants to turn a profit every year. This is a big investment and there are a lot of expenses to upkeep the facility and run the organization.
On the other side, I still see this as a temporary asset of the Aquilini group. They know they wont own the team forever and they are best served to maximize the end value of their time with the franchise (thus a third tower will soon be coming up off the property).
In the end I think they understand that their value of assets will fluctuate, but they definitely have a comfort level with the degree that it fluctuates before heads start to roll. Fan optimism will likely help some people keep their jobs |

ya I think I've got a grasp on it....I just think you're wrong, in that they don't know how to make a team profitable. You don't make an organization profitable by throwing good money after bad. Which they've done. I believe they've learned how professional sports organizations work over the past ten years.
Winning in sports, from a gate driven league, means being competitive. You can't manufacture competitiveness, you've gotta build it. I know people....just sayin.

That's why I don't agree with Vantel's assessment that it's gonna be a busy summer for them. They can't afford multiple moves unless they want to gut the future of the club that they've just spent three years building....it ain't happening.
Probably see a dman traded but that's about it. I can't see any picks being swapped, which Benning has all but confirmed.
They need another star player, the only place your gonna find those is drafting one. Then they'll start selling the Boeser Horvat etc young core to the public more heavily. |

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they're cool with losing money, they most certainly are not. However, if they want the glory years again, and millions of playoff dollars, as well as increased corporate value, they're going to have to go through some building to get there.
Trust me, that's not lost on Francesco anymore. |

They are the sole owners of Rogers Arena, which means all concert revenues, the Juno's in 2018 and the World Juniors in 2019 are all additional revenues to offset poor ticket sales on 41 nights per year. I think they will sleep easier on a rebuild knowing they have additional revenue streams coming in.
Long term, "Aquilini Centre" (worst name btw) will increase dramatically with a successful franchise |

Do you also know people in his inner circle? Regardless, Linden has already said they won't consider anymore high priced UFA's. It's pretty clear that the team is in a full rebuild. Of course, many on here will argue how they implement their plan. |

Yes, this. The team is no good but big Willie has successfully developed horvat, Baer, gran, shink, tree, Hutton, stretch, etc.....
I don't see how anyone can say he's not a great development couch as he's proven that he is.
Its not his faulty he hasn't been given the horses to run. Plus were going too be drafting high for the next few years, why would we want an x and o couch when we're developing and losing.

I watched the clip, only reason they gave for firing Willie is he criticized the lack of talent last week and they interpreted that as a shot at management. Didnt say anything else
Then one suggested Bylsma is worse because Toronto has surpassed them in the rebuild and he wasnt able to get them to the playoffs |
