I'm not a fan of Panotch, but I'm guessing he meant 2 points shy of hitting 300 in a Flyers uniform.
On a different note, have the Flyers been linked to any NCAA free agents? I know Vecchione attended camp here and is still currently playing, but haven't seen the Flyers linked to anyone yet. - five4fighting10
There was an article saying that Ghost might put in a good word with Vecchione, but also said that he was going to let him focus on his play until Union ends their season. You'd have to think that he's on the Flyers list, since they invited him to development camp. There's also some saying that they might look at Foo, too, but he might stay in college for another year to play with his brother.
Vecchione was just named ECAC player of the year. Both him and Foo are Hobey Baker finalists. Not sure what kind of impact they'd have on the big club in the long run, but they'd be good guys to have in the system. |

There's no doubt in my mind that Hexy is going to add another goalie. It would be very unlike him to come to camp with the mindset that a young player will have a spot open for them. - PhillySportsGuy
Especially when Stolarz has another year of being waiver-exempt and Lyon has two. Lyon gave up 5 goals last night but the defense was AWOL for a lot of them. They are missing Hagg and O'Neill at the moment.

Sounds like Vecchione is going to be good. He's a right shot, and I read that he is good on draws, so is he only a centre? It'd certainly be nice if we were able to sign him, and he could play LW perhaps. |

1) Have you ever been to the top of the arch?
2) Who is on the cover of NHL 2000?
3) Did you feel that a "veteran" with playoff experience, who played for a rival, might help you finally beat said rival in the playoffs?
4) Who is your favorite saxophonist? - YuenglingJagr

In the NHL, a .910-.912 save percentage is below average for a starter. - PhillySportsGuy
The league average save percentage this season -- from very best to very worst and for all goalies who have appeared in at least one game -- is .913. Among those who have played at least 35 games, it is .914
Keep in mind that team defense affects save percentage and the save percentages within a particular team are often fairly similar.

According to Panotch, Simmonds needs just 2 points to hit 300 for his career. Must be common core math since he currently has 391 career points.

They made a trade to get a veteran forward/tougher at the net/playoff experience...whatever cliche you want to use. I wouldn't have made the trade, but I think it is obvious why it was made. They didn't just say auction off TJ Oshie - YuenglingJagr

So looking at the pending UFAs, there does not appear to be any big contracts that need to be filled. Hopefully they don't sign VDV, I would be willing to bet they kick the tires on MDZ for the right price..Mason is a big question on what they want to do long term, but my feeling is the go outside the org fi they can't get a good price on mason.
That really leaves the type of deal they do for Ghost as the only bump in Salary...so who do they target in FA with 10-13 Million of Cap space once the Ghost deal is done and the goalie situation is resolved? |

I think I'm just a little more down on Stolarz or Lyon becoming a starting caliber goalie in the NHL than most. I certainly don't think the team should be building their roster with the expectation that either of those guys will be ready for that within the next two years.
I have much higher expectations for Hart and Sandstrom |

Maybe by AHL standards. In the NHL, a .910-.912 save percentage is below average for a starter. Compare that to Murray who had a .937 save percentage in the AHL.
My point is that there isn't really anything to suggest that either Stolarz or Lyon could handle significant NHL time yet. Getting 20-25 games as a backup is plausible. There also isn't much to suggest that Neuvirth can play 55-60 games at starter level quality.
If the Flyers intend on competing for a playoff spot, they're going to need to go outside the organization to get another goalie (unless they plan on bringing back Mason, which seems unlikely at the moment) - PhillySportsGuy

There won't be that much space after signing Ghost now that Filppula is here.
Bernier could be a target in goal for Hextall. He was drafted 11th overall by the Kings in 2006. |

I agree. However I have a sneaking suspicion that a deal is in place involving LV and Neuvy and a FA goalie will be signed to be paired with one of the kids. - BiggE
Very possible and I wouldn't rule out Mason as that FA signing. |
