I believe Vegas picks 3(based on odds). Do you think that pick is in play if they can get a star player to put the "C" on and promote? - J35Bacher
They technically have the 3rd best odds in the lottery. Their pick can be anywhere from 1-6 |

According to Panotch, Simmonds needs just 2 points to hit 300 for his career. Must be common core math since he currently has 391 career points.

I thought it was only NMC that HAD to be protected? How would he be a FA? He has another 2 years on his deal I thought? - J35Bacher
The Pens will buy him out to protect Murray if they can't move him. |

Wayne Simmonds was a second round pick, and was actually taken with the compensatory pick for LA, so he was basically a 3rd round pick.
Therefore, he isn't good since only top-5 picks are good. |

I don't understand how the Blues past success or lack there of with past superstar players has to do with giving up another current superstar player for slim to no success against the Chicago Black Hawks by using an average player the Hawks had five years ago for one season. - SuperSchennBros
They made a trade to get a veteran forward/tougher at the net/playoff experience...whatever cliche you want to use. I wouldn't have made the trade, but I think it is obvious why it was made. They didn't just say auction off TJ Oshie |

Matt Murray's AHL numbers were absurdly good. Lyon and Stolarz have average-below average numbers - PhillySportsGuy
I dont know if I'd float below average...Murray's were record breaking though...and he played for his current coach |

What did Matt Murray do to show he was ready to be called up to the Pens? He played well in the AHL. Same thing Lyons and Stolarz have done.

I'm not a fan of Panotch, but I'm guessing he meant 2 points shy of hitting 300 in a Flyers uniform.
On a different note, have the Flyers been linked to any NCAA free agents? I know Vecchione attended camp here and is still currently playing, but haven't seen the Flyers linked to anyone yet. |

he has a modified NTC - list of 18 teams he will go to. Going to be interesting to see if any of the 18 are interested in obtaining him. |

Yeah I mean just waive it and see if he is too expensive to get picked...I think he still would, but who knows |

He should try proofreading then, he clearly wrote 300 NHL career points. |

Maybe by AHL standards. In the NHL, a .910-.912 save percentage is below average for a starter. Compare that to Murray who had a .937 save percentage in the AHL.
My point is that there isn't really anything to suggest that either Stolarz or Lyon could handle significant NHL time yet. Getting 20-25 games as a backup is plausible. There also isn't much to suggest that Neuvirth can play 55-60 games at starter level quality.
If the Flyers intend on competing for a playoff spot, they're going to need to go outside the organization to get another goalie (unless they plan on bringing back Mason, which seems unlikely at the moment) |

There's no doubt in my mind that Hexy is going to add another goalie. It would be very unlike him to come to camp with the mindset that a young player will have a spot open for them. |

Murray was posting save percentages of .930+ in the AHL, including a .941 season in 40 games. Stolarz has never been north of .916 and has been sub- .910 twice in his three AHL seasons. Lyon has less track record as a first-year pro (.912 to date) but is also a bit older.
While there are most certainly team defense factors involved in save percentages and other stats, Murray absolutely dominated in the AHL. Stolarz and Lyon have had strong stretches but not to the same degree.

If they don't get the 1st or 2nd pick in the lottery, then maybe.

Their chance of staying in the top 3 is only 30.7%. |
