I don't care how they do this year. I'm ALL about 3-5 years from now because that's when it matters. I'm not disappointed they aren't making the playoffs. I didn't expect anything if they did. Nothing has clouded my judgment because I haven't said anything differently this season than over the summer.
You can try to shortchange my opinions by saying I'm not "thinking clearly." Well, I am. Everything I've said is well digested. - Mononoke
The more I think about it, the less confident I feel about this team moving forward if they're not just going to bottom out for a year or two. It's just too hard to find elite forward talent without picking really high. And even if you pick high, you likely need multiple years to give yourself a real chance. |

3-5 years from now is an eternity. You have no clue who the goaltender will be, no idea who the coach will be, and outside of Provorov there isn't a single player who is on the roster or in the system right now who you can say are sure to be on the team then. You think Hextall is likely to be the GM in 3-5 years? With this many uncertainties, there isn't any way to forecast what this team will be that far down the road.

Can you imagine a GM coming in and saying "I have a plan to get us back to being competitive. It will take 6-8 years though" |

No I can't. All joking around aside sure the d prospects have a chance to be very good, but there aren't any guarantees. And even if a few of them hit, there will be growing pains. Who are going to be the core forwards if/when the dmen are reaching their primes? I think the answer to that is they are unknown. |

I think they'll languish between seasons like this and seasons like last year. I just don't think picking around 14 gives them enough of a competitive advantage over teams picking in the 20-25 range. It's not like other teams aren't drafting and developing too. You're basically just betting on your scouts, development staff and luck being better than your opponents. |

Draft BPA. Dangle one of the forwards for a young Center with legit top 6 upside start filtering in the D prospects and Stoli. That's about all I got. |

Seems like fans are just banking on the team pulling a rabbit out of their like they did with Giroux. Pretty sure they didn't even want Giroux. They just got lucky. |

Edmontons management was a joke. It is the go to argument for everyone against wanting high picks and it's a stupid comparison. Last I heard everyone in Edmonton is sooo pissed they have Connor McDavid |

Since the trip to the Cup Finals they have won two playoff series, and now have missed the playoffs 3 times. When you get to the Cup Finals you gotta win one. 6 straight losses in the Finals is hard to believe. |

Idk. They need to get their hands on a generational talent somehow. The only way to get one is to luck into it. |

No it's not a stupid comparison, maybe you just don't get the point. Which is there is no guarantee regardless of what approach you take. No matter how high the picks you have are. Someone might think one way versus another is the way to go, and better odds, and they may be right. Don't tell me you can't get good players unless you have top 5 picks because that is simply not true. |

I didn't say they'd suck for 3-5 years. I said I don't see them capable of winning a Cup before that period at the earliest. |

Philly teams have no luck in my book - Bonerfide69
They have been snakebitten in a lot of instances for sure. The Phillies had a nice run for about 6 years and delivered a Championship.
If Embiid and Simmons are healthy a championship can definitely be built around them. By the time those guys hit their primes LeBron won't be a factor and they can really do damage in what is currently a weak eastern conf. |

I def agree with you there. The issue with being a fan of a team that sucks in the present is, the future is never guaranteed. You just can't forecast what will happen. Oh well, I guess I'm stating the obvious |

I understand if the team has a mandate to ice a team capable of making the playoffs each season, but they can't also say "they're doing everything they can to win a championship" |

That's a matter of opinion because you think they have to hit rock bottom to get higher picks to have the best chance of winning a championship. I don't think that has to be a part of it. |
