Yeah. The odds a mid to late second round pick being a contributor at the NHL level aren't high. It's essentially a lottery ticket. - PLindbergh31
I mean I know people think reclamation project but I think it's the same odds as a late 2nd or 3rd rounder working out.
LIke could you get a Stefan Matteau from Montreal for Streit instead of a late 2dn rounder or 3rd rounder.

Averaging under 2 goals a game over the last 30 games. Never thought I'd see an NHL team pull that off.
Edit: The Avalanche are averaging 1.96 goals per game on the season.
To give some prospective how bad the Flyers have been they are averaging 1.76 over the last 30 games. Unbelievable. |

I'd trade Wiese and MacDonald for Stefan Matteau Sr. |

Or how you stay perpetually bad. - bmeltzer
Yup. As someone pointed out the other day, if Edmonton doesn't get lucky and win the McDavid sweepstakes, where are they right now? Most likely they are on the outside looking in for umpteenth time. Tanking, IMO, is not the answer.
I'd just move PEB, Del Zotto, Streit and a goalie, and get a generic backup along with the picks coming back. You could then just bring up Hagg which would give the Flyers 7 D and would still leave the Phantoms plenty of D for their stretch run. Up front, you could bring up Laughton and, once Konecny returns (assuming Weal is back shortly), you'd have a full complement of 14 forwards and the Phantoms would still have plenty for their stretch run. |

Not to be annoying but why the shout out to the Delco Pee Wees? Obviously there's some connection I'm missing. |

Assumes the picks we get are for this draft. I would be okay with moving back into the first round to select someone they want...I know someone else that basically thinks the back end of the first round isn't much different than the second. I am not opposed to either scenario as we are still 4 months away from the draft. I want picks either as ammo or lottery tickets no matter what - YuenglingJagr
Yeah I'm not opposed to either scenario as well. Hell moving back last year worked out pretty nicely imo. But back to back years with a plethora of picks so I'm curious to see how this draft plays out. Long ways to go. |

I know picks are sexy but I actually wouldn't mind trying to finding a young player who maybe needs a change in return. Maybe they have fallen out of favor but I wouldn't mind someone like that over a late 2nd rounder if possible. - J35Bacher

Only the Flyers have made more picks over the past three drafts and no one currently holds more of 'em than they do this year.

Avs fans think they're getting a package of Coots, Sanheim/Morin, and a pick for one of those two.... Kill me if that happens. |

Him too.
I would explore guys like that over later picks if possible. They both probably have the same chance of becoming NHL regulars. |

Sometimes I wonder how much dealing Hexy is going to do at the deadline. I understand if some deals are there he will make them, but I also get the feeling he doesn't want to have to blow up what is a very competitive Phantoms team in order to get some AHL guys NHL ice time in what is fast becoming a lost season. - MBFlyerfan
He should leave the ahl guys alone unless he gets blown away. Just move salary that is weighing down the payroll. |
