It means you were suggesting trading, Hayes. And Matt loves Hayes, and wants to do naughty things to him.

No way I trade any center unless its a center coming back. That goes for Step to. |

I agree with you. For years the team was chasing top six centers, and now we have three. Top pair defenders and centers, most valuable positions in hockey, IMO.

Exactly. Rangers have been real weak in the center position, hopefully Hayes keeps progressing same with Zibby, and they finally have a very good top 3. |

What do you think Hayes and Zib will get in their next deals? |

I guess it depends on what side you are on. Some want to give Zib a longer deal going into is UFA years. I would rather do a shorter deal and still have control for his next contract. I don't think either is necessarily wrong. They both have risks.
Hayes still has another year so next year will be a good barometer for Hayes contract. |

Nope. I like the Sather approach. Keep as much control as you can for as long as possible. I do think there are times where extensions should have been offered. Also think if you are going to go that route it better be for a special player. Look what Edmonton did with their players.. probably a cautionary tale in their somewhere. |

OUch, but its definately one way to lock up 2 solid centers for years to come. I think if that many years are offered than the $$$ per year could go as low as 4 -5 mill per. |

Y would anyone take 4 million for 60+ points for the next 7 years? |

I would absolutely sign both to identical contracts for 7 years at 6 million per. |

that couldn't sign Hayes to an extension right now. Only after this season. |

I think from Zibanjed's perspective, if he takes $5 million per, it wouldn't be much more than 4 years. So, then he could hit the open market at 28 years old for one more big contract, assuming he holds the level.

I think it's extremely likely Z-bad at least files for arbitration
at the very least they will at least need someone to file so they get that second buyout window in August opened to them |

With everything staying the same as it is now. Who would you extend for a longer contract? Zibby this year, or Hayes or Miller next year. |

I would prioritize the centers, so Miller would be last on that totem poll.

Yeah. Its funny how that works. Last year when Kreids and Hayes were having pretty sub par seasons, I would have traded either one over Miller. |

I honestly think that all three will be a priority, with Nash's contract ending at the end of next year. If they bring Nash back, it will only be after they take care of the Miller, Hayes and Zibby situation.

I like Jimbo's idea of extending Nash but at a much more reasonable contract. But yeah, those three are definitely a priority over any extension for Nash. |

I like the idea of extending Nash as well. He's made a ton of money in his career, and hopefully he'll take a reasonable shorter term deal to stick around. But, that is a next year issue, so let's see what happens before then.

Totally agree. Would love to see him sign a deal like E. Staal, but Nash is playing much better than Staal last year, so he'd probably sign a 3 year deal in the 6 mill range. Might be too much |

I agree. Sather broke the rule with McDonagh and it's worked out really well, but it's rare a player that good comes off an ELC where you just know this guy is the real deal. |
