I think Giroux was a legit #1C from 2010 til maybe 2014, but as he's gotten older and gone through some injuries, he's lost a step and now is a 2C who can still anchor a powerplay. I don't think anyone ever thought that Streit was going to be a top pairing guy, rather he was looked at as a 2nd pair guy who could qb the top pp. Again, as he's gotten older, he's slowed down and now, in the last year of his deal, he's a 3rd pair pp specialist.
Couturier really is an enigma. At times, especially at ES and as recently as the first few weeks of this season, he has looked like a legit 2C. However, he really seems to be struggling since he came off IR and going forward with him as one of the top two centers has to be at least somewhat of a concern.
They do though have guys on expiring contracts that would be attractive to a contender, hopefully they move a few of them over the next 6 weeks. - BiggE
His performances against the devils and the rangers in the playoffs raised huge question marks for me.

You ate taking what I'm saying out of context. Maybe I carried on like a douche about how i saw the future of this team, I'll give you that, cause ai do have a weird and twisted sense of humor but when it comes to the flyers over the years I thhink I have gotten too carried away emotionally, too high when good, too low when bad. But that doesn't change the fact that I had the foresight to see this team as constructed was going to be mediocre by overvaluing it's perceived core. - JoeRussomanno
I see. I'm hungover and have to work on Sunday so I do apologize for the initial misread. I do agree that, even during the 10 game win streak, the writing was on the wall. The underlying statistics hinted and are now showing that this team has some serious issues competing 5 on 5. Is it purely systems based? Probably not, but I do think Hakstol is neutering the offense a bit. Are the issues purely player based? Probably not but obviously guys like Giroux are expected to do more. Like I said last night, I love G. He's been my favorite hockey players for years. I accept that he hasn't been himself for a long time now and if it doesn't change we could be pretty (frank)ed barring some draft/prospect luck. |

A legit 2nd line Centre could possibly help Giroux's game, but that would have to come through a trade. IMO Couturier is not that guy.

Ghost and Coots to the Avs for Dooosh...
I put Schenn back at center and leave him there.
Can Morin be that much worse than what there is now...he will hit..maybe even make guys think...or bring up another kid...

Agreed, we should move Ghost when his value is lowest so we can salvage this season and squeak into the playoffs as the 2nd wild card. |

Time to unload our unrestricted free agents...bring in the youth. Let the chips fall where they may. get some of our rookie D some experience. draft in the top 5 and start building for next year - scorachek
The current situation with the team is an excellent environment to bring up players who might not be ready for the NHL to play in.

JFC, trading Ghost, one of the few guys on this team with the ability to transition from defense to offense at ES is NOT the answer to this teams problems. I've lost count on how many good players have struggled in their second seasons only to go on and bounce back in their 3rd and beyond. Ghost is one of the last guys I'd trade on this team. If he's getting moved, they need to be getting a guy like Draisatl back as part of the deal.
Packaging him and Couturier to go out and get Duchesne is just asinine. |

This has nothing to do with the playoffs this year. I'm not so sure this is the lowest value for Ghost....

There is a fine line between accepting that your team has some flaws and being a complete douche. The "don't worry in 5 years we'll be good lulz" is SUPER clever guys. Thank you for such a wonderful contribution. - Mordecai

If a player is ready for the NHL then I'm all for calling them up if they think they can help the team.

Joe, the overwhelming number of posters sees this team as a bubble playoff team. I don't know who you're referring to that has overrated this team.

This could be it too... coots just does not have the firepower. That being said when Giroux is out there he goes invisible for too long for my liking. Regardless of the roster he's had better linemates than Guys like lindros and Brind'amour did, just saying no it really is too much for one guy to carry the whole team for 60-80 games, but when you are on the ice it's you and 4 guys against 5 other guys. So if you're the franchise guy you need to be taking the fight to the other team game in and game out, that entails controlling the flow of the gane, registering chances, ffs having your name at least said while you're on the ice outside of the fact you went to school at bemidji state etc.. |

Better than moving our second best proven NHL defenseman when his value is significantly lowered. |

It is clear that Giroux is no longer a player that can put a team on his back and carry them. I do believe however that he can still be a top player on a good team, if he gets some help. A 19 year old forward was probably their best forward last night, followed by Brayden Schenn. Giroux, Voracek, Couturier and Simmonds were MIA
