Matt Murray even registered an assist in the game and with that assist he pulls into a tie for the scoring lead with Olli Maatta.
I think its time he was bumped up to the Crosby line |

I have to be honest I was on the edge of my seat after Pastrnak scored to tie. FOr whatever reason as of late Pittsburgh hasn't fared well in these Wednesday night rivalry games, but this time Rusty put the nail in the Bruins' coffin in OT.
Regarding Maata, I know he's had some major health difficulties during his tenure in the NHL, but at the end of the day a team needs to have their best players on the ice and with today's game speed kills period! I wish management would consider giving Derick Pouliot a fair shake and have Maata sit for a few games. Please, Pittsburgh I implore do not make the same mistake with Derick as you did with Simon Despres. |

Pouloit isn't even lighting up wbs. I'm as big of fan as pouliot as his analytics have always intrigued me and he definitely has some puck skills. That being said he is not one of our best 6 defenseman. |

haha I think it's important to remember that DP and Maatta are both 22. Still have time to grow (DP is up for a new contract after this year, though). As an example, Dumo is 25 and only in his second season as a full-time starter.
I hope they hang on to DP for a while, but this may not be his year. He was pretty bad in the preseason games too. |

I agree. He is still young, and not all players progress at the time rate. It also could be a case much like Schultz, where on another team he could be given a certain role and actual ice time, and could succeed. I still think he's got skills and is a solid skater, from reading his comments about getting sent down, it sounds like his confidence is low, which reminds me of Schultz in EDM.

I said this in the Flyers thread about Couturier, and I'll say it about Hornqvist: who cares about expected goals and "possession" metrics when they don't turn into tangible offense. If you attempt 200 shots per game but come away with zero goals, then what good are the shots? At some point, you have to be able to produce goals, and not just shots or some hogwash "expected" numbers.
I like Hornqvist, and I think the Pens will be crazy if/when they leave him exposed. But right now, he's not getting it done. |

I think he's just developing slowly. And it may be attitude related. Our organization should be a great place for him. He fits our style perfectly. We have been doing a phenomenol job developing talent in his age group. Gonchar is an excellent coach. |

Sarcasm noted, but I will say that he's not doing much to help his case. Again, all "possession" metrics aside, he's not putting up offense in the most important category. And for a player noted primarily for offense, that's not gonna cut it. Still time for him to find his way, but that time is starting to run out. |

Doesn't the fact that he's not been developing in such an environment worry you some? If you give the guy every chance to succeed and all he's managing are baby steps, I'd think you'd have to start getting a bit worried. |

I know he hasn't earned it... but with Letang out.. I wonder if they bring DP up or go with Olesky. |

Skillset-wise, DP is the better replacement, as Letang's noted more for his offense (although he's also very good defensively). Based on merit, I'd say Warsofsky should get the first call, unless he's injured. |

No - or they shouldn't be. It's pretty much the norm with penguins defensmen that they have to be brought along slowly. Other than Maatta, I don't recall a pens defensemen in recent memory that developed right away. Niskanen, Duomolin, Despres and (even schultz I guess) took their time |
