that is all semantics...Couturier, regardless of linemates, will still probably take on tougher matchups than Schenns line - YuenglingJagr
That's not semantics. He wasn't discussing matchups, he was talking about taking Couturier off of the 2nd line, putting him on the 3rd line to make that line better. |

Flyers UFA's after this season include:
VDV, Bellemare, Gordon, MDZ, Streit, Schultz
RFA's: Cousins, Ghost, Laughton, Leier, Luybimov, Stolarz, Straka, Goulbourne, and a few other small timers.
Thankfully some changes seem to be inbound. - flyer_nutter
I could see them letting all of the UFAs walk unless one needs to be signed to go unprotected for the Las Vegas expansion.
The RFAs should all be re upped I think. Not sure about their plans with Straka though. |

I'd like to keep MDZ on a shorter deal as a stop gap for the young kids coming up. Want nothing to do with Shattenkirk even if he hits UFA.
FA is bare like hell. I would spend money on Burns if he leaves San Jose. |

Oh, I missed del zotto on the UFA list.
I want him re signed for sure. I worry about the term though. |

I have injury questions for him. Short term I'd prefer, but the Flyers may be in a tough spot. With Streit and Schultz nearly being vulture food, how many vacant spots can you have?
Again, I'd throw big money at Burns. |

even if he does, I would rather the Flyers give term to a 27 year old Del Zotto over a 32 year old Burns |

MDZ for 4 or even 5 years makes sense.

I am not really sure what he has done to deserve a 6 year contract...not one with a very high AAV anyway |

I think Burns is a #1 d-man in this league. Well, at least the closest you may be able to find in FA.
He will be 32, but has played 82 games in each of the last 2 seasons, with some injury questions before that.
I'd pay for him. |

I just think youd be paying for what Burns has been more than what he will be. With the Flyers defensive prospects, I don't really think it is worth it.
He is extremely gifted offensively, and I doubt his shot (one of the league's best) will just disappear, but there are only so many spots to go around and that means less PP time for Ghost/Provorov/Sanheim |

No one is giving MDZ that much. I refuse to believe it. He still has this stigma about him, I reckon. Other teams may be OK giving him a 3/4 year deal, but after some majors downs only a few seasons back, stuff like that sticks reputation-wise. Doesn't help that his scoring has dipped as his play has gotten better. Points are money after all. I can just see MDZ being a player GMs get skittish about signing long term. I guarantee Hexy is not, but it plays into his favor. Teams would rather sign for longer and more $$ a player who is rapidly declining but was once good then a player who is peaking after valleying. |

Burns will get a monster 7/8 year deal. No doubt about it. He's fun....but absolutely no. It makes anti-sense. And Homer would do it |

Stop being my alt
I agree and my comment was more about how I think GM's would approach him in free agency than it was about the player himself. Maybe 4 years ago MDZ gets a big stinkin contract, but nothing has happened over the last 2 years that makes me feel like he would sign a crazy contract |

The Boyd Gordon for sure. I'll be wearing my game-worn Colin McDonald Flyers jersey signed by Andrew MacDonald, but signed as "Colin McDonald" |

My main reason is that I'd rather overpay for a guy like Burns when he hits FA instead of say a Yandle.
Burns to me is near that upper category of d-men. Maybe I am too much of a downer, but I dont think all the Flyers prospects pan out. Burns for at least a few years, is a sure thing. Helps bridge the gap. |

Defenseman are at a premium in this league. Del Zotto, if he hits free agency, will still be relatively young, and can provide 2nd pairing 2 way minutes. He can use the leverage of free agency to get teams bidding against each other, to get the best deal he can. |

If it becomes, do you want Burns for 7 years at 49 million, or MDZ at 4 years for 22 million? |

I don't get the Burmistrov love affair. He hasn't posted more than 10 goals since before he decided to bail on his team to go play on another continent, and it's not like he's 21-22 with room to grow. I think, if anything, Couturier is a more realistic 2C than he is. Were he a UFA, sure, why not. But I wouldn't give up assets (outside of AMac) for him. - jmatchett383
1 point in 10 games this year, and 36% on faceoffs. Let's trade that bum Matt Read for him. |

I'd rather throw big money at Jamie Benn, but I doubt he (or Burns) makes it to UFA. |
