I know, eh? It's ridiculous...
Notice that as soon as Chiarelli did the Hall trade, we learned that Lucic was coming aboard (so it was Lucic and Larsson in and Hall out)... Notice that as soon as Chiarelli did the Yak trade, we learned that Russell was coming aboard (so it was lifetime AHL player, possible 2nd rounder, and Russell in, and Yakucrap out)... Chiarelli knows what he's doing... He doesn't make these trades until he has another UFA coming aboard...
Btw, I like Russell... Shot blocking monster, who can chip in offensively... The Oilers are better today than they were yesterday, and that's what it's all about. - laughs2907
I disagree. Russell is horrible. He blocks so many shots because he's out of position defensively to begin with. He can't defend besides blocking shots. Waste of money and a roster spot. I would have prefered to bring Bergeron back. |

You guy's have been talking him up for a while now saying you weren't going to just give him away. I expected you to not just give him away. Anyone who said they would just give him away was a troll and a bad person. - walshyleafsfan
Everything changed after Chairelli practically gave Hall away LOL |

ya i agree with you. if you watched him with dallas in the playoffs you know hes a bottom pairing guy.
today sucks to be an oilers fan... dont understand why they just didnt sit on him for a month or so. he brought back nothing in terms of roster players so where was the fire that made this deal get done now and not at some point in the season.
even if he went back to russia for a year or 2 they could have kept his rights..
very poor decision |

Russell is going to make it even harder to get that puck out of the d-zone.
On the plus side, Talbot will get some relief on making saves.
At least it's not that turd Jultz. Russell will at least play defense, and isn't afraid of physical play. It's just that he puts too much emphasis on blocking shots instead of getting possession of the puck. I remember last year when Russell for Yakupov was suggested as a joke.... |

Glad the Blues took a 1 year low risk trade for Yakupov. At least he easily replaces what Sobotka would have brought to St Louis(wish they would trade that guys rights)
Blues gave up a conditional 3rd rounder and an at best AHL type player.
Yakupov playing with fellow countrymen Tarasenko and former teammates Perron and MPS. Familiarity in the room and maybe a change of scenery will do him well. Hitch will not be a problem. Seems like the Blues are going to a faster more offensive team so lets see how this works. Let Backes and Brouwer walk for nothing and seems youth and speed are the teams philosophy this year. Gonna be a weird one.
Russel will help you guys block shots as he is great at that. I liked him with the Blues a few years back but that was a bit ago, haven't really paid much attention to him the last few years - BluesDroogie
Yep
Oiler fans indifferent about losing yaks shouldn't suggest there's no chance it works out for the blues.
You basically took zero risk.
He was never gonna turn it around here, but I don't think that neccesarily translates to other situations

Yakupov asked for a trade ages ago. Potentially as far back as early in his second season.
But unequivocally last year at some point.
The oilers have already sat on him for ages and hope his value would go up.
Then he was passed on the depth Chart by about 4 more guys in preseason.
And it's obvious we wanted cap space. That was the value in the deal.
This is a decision almost hardly discussion worthy it's so meaningless at this point

Russel is better than fayne. Or at least can be better in spots
That's literally the only thing I'm looking at when considering this signing/trade . And russel is only signed for a year |

then let him go to russia. you get the cap space you want. im shocked he rought back so little.. could they not have made this move with a bad team at least making the pick higher and more than likely giving more of a chance to hit the 15 goals... been so many odd deals from multiple teams in the last year or so.. plus you just gave up a lot for reinhart why not just play him.. |

Sorry dude, I have zero faith that Russell helps the Oil in any fashion. I would rather have spent the money on Jokipaka or MA Bergeron or almost anyone. My used pooptickets have more value than he does. |

If they had a better offer, that's the trade that would've been done.
And going to Russia doesn't give you the pick .
Reinhart played a good chunk at the end of last season when injuries hit.
Even played decently.
But before that in a few stints he was pretty awful. Not just gonna play a guy for the sake of it cause we give up a first for him.
Reinhart has more work to do. He'll get many more opportunities

Oilers should have traded the pick, it was the obvious move.
I can't believe how bad Lowe, MacT and now Chia have run this organization. It's as if they are the dumbest minds in hockey. - Scooby_Doo
You would have thought Chia was the light at the end of the tunnel but his three biggest trades so far (Reinhart, Larsson and this) might actually be worse than any deals the previous dimwits made. Taken with the Seguin deal, you get the feeling that maybe trading isn't Chia's strong suit unless he is dealing with a half-in-the-bag Brian Burke. |

I could see Yakupov putting up 20 goals this year and being a + player this year also.
new faces, fresh start, less pressure.
Or it could be another bad year and he is put in the press box for Rattie, Jaskin, Ferraro, etc..
He has to play well in order to play. Hopefully that will push him in the right direction.
Either way i am happy with this trade.
Gives Rattie more incentive to try harder. Rattie cannot catch a break with Hitch though it seems. MPS has been given more of a chance but really he hasn't even been given a chance either.
Blues new 3rd line
Yakupov Perron MPS whoever can play center should just take it over ha ha |

Im guessing the rumors to Chicago were probably involving a roster player going both ways. With this deal you guys were able to sign Russell. Overpaid a bit but its a 1 year deal so its not that bad. |

this wasnt a big trade at all.
it was a dude that got passed on the depth chart this preseason by college signees, written off bandaids and castoffs from other teams.
the same guy that also asked for a trade ages ago and hasnt upped his value since the last time they tried to deal him and got no decent offers. like wtf are people even talking about big trade?
reinhart mightve been a bad one though. we'll see. cant say missing out on a smallish center in barzal means much to us at this point.
and a first was what reinhart was still gonna garner at that point. some more homework with reinharts waning depth position in the organization mightve lowered that high second though. |
