forgetting for a second that we actually have no evidence there was a reasonable deal on the table, obvious move according to whom?
5 years later you can see it all clearly
post less bad posts and more good posts people - HB77
Surely, they could've traded the 1st pick for the 9th pick though? |

Nuge and Eberle have been underwhelming. Should have been traded a long time ago Imo. - Scooby_Doo
eberle is top 5 in scoring for right wingers over the last half decade.
averaging over 60 per full season during that time
traded him for one of the guys in the top 2 on that list? |

Funny that Nuge has already accomplished more than either of your beloved Sedins at the same age |

That would've been a win for the Oilers.
Take Maata, Vasilevskiy, Pearson, Forsberg, Trouba or Hertl. |

very bad trade, I think there is a very good player inside of Yakupov somewhere. There really was not much attention on him this year and he could have just silently worked his way up the lineup. He seemed to be improving enough to at least give him a try.
In the end, I'm sure there was a discussion with the coaching staff and it looks like that discussions was something like "so, what about Yakupov?" "trade him, I don't want him". I have faith in this coaching staff. The GM? not so sure, but in the end the coaching stafff probably gave the green light to let him go. He's not an important player and will not be missed, but I believe they could have gotten more value for him.
Sleeper hockey pool last pick...Nail Yakupov. - JLO961
The only way there will ever be a good player inside of Yakupov is if he (1) has sex with one or (2) he cannibalizes one. |

Yak has done f uck all. What are people expecting to get for him? - doon
Given his play ofcourse.... but I still think teams in the east would of given a 2nd... I don't get it. I know Yaks and I would have given 2 3rds just for the potential
Thats called hindsight. Looking back at a draft and saying Oilers should have selected Dman who were picked according to their rankings in that 5-10 spot is foolish. - DDM-Coga
Alot of people, myself included, were calling for them to take a D-man, with Eberle, Hall, RNH already in the organization years ago. Instead of taking a guy like Lindholm or Rielly.... even trading after the draft - they took this guy and look at where they are. Hall is gone. RNH is no where close to his potential. Yaks is gone for a 3rd.
A 2nd line center when healthy, a potential #2/#3 D-man, and a 3rd pick. Hope Larsson steps his game up or thats not even decent return for 3 1st overall picks selected!! |

You're absolutely right. Chia turned down a 2nd from the east so he could trade yak within the same conference for a lesser value |

You don't think people would have offered something better for the 1st overall pick?
A lot of bad moves. Puljuarvi over Juolevi was the latest.
Too early to judge Benning, let's stay on topic please. - Scooby_Doo
Juolevi who is back in London already?
Benning been on the job longer than Chiarelli so it's too early to judge him as well I guess. |

I know, eh? It's ridiculous...
Notice that as soon as Chiarelli did the Hall trade, we learned that Lucic was coming aboard (so it was Lucic and Larsson in and Hall out)... Notice that as soon as Chiarelli did the Yak trade, we learned that Russell was coming aboard (so it was lifetime AHL player, possible 2nd rounder, and Russell in, and Yakucrap out)... Chiarelli knows what he's doing... He doesn't make these trades until he has another UFA coming aboard...
Btw, I like Russell... Shot blocking monster, who can chip in offensively... The Oilers are better today than they were yesterday, and that's what it's all about. |

Glad the Blues took a 1 year low risk trade for Yakupov. At least he easily replaces what Sobotka would have brought to St Louis(wish they would trade that guys rights)
Blues gave up a conditional 3rd rounder and an at best AHL type player.
Yakupov playing with fellow countrymen Tarasenko and former teammates Perron and MPS. Familiarity in the room and maybe a change of scenery will do him well. Hitch will not be a problem. Seems like the Blues are going to a faster more offensive team so lets see how this works. Let Backes and Brouwer walk for nothing and seems youth and speed are the teams philosophy this year. Gonna be a weird one.
Russel will help you guys block shots as he is great at that. I liked him with the Blues a few years back but that was a bit ago, haven't really paid much attention to him the last few years |
