In fairness Yakupov has been asking for a trade for a while now, it's not like they gave up on him out of the blue. And after reports this week of the price not even being a 3rd round pick to likely get a 2nd is a decent job. I think he can score 15 goals this year. Though it'll likely be a low 2nd round pick.

I think getting a disgruntled player off the team and out of the locker room is a positive.

The prospect was a contract dump, nothing more than that. Edmonton didnt have to retain salary, got the pick they were originally trying to take, and had to just take some random ECHL scrub which is no harm.

Its not a blockbuster than helps their current roster but they can move on and not have to take a 4th round pick for him at this years deadline instead

They got enough to move on without it being a complete dumpster fire. It was only 75% of a dumpster fire but they were able to move on from a bad relationship

I think hes still worth a gamble to take on your team for a low risk 1 year try out
but who knows what his rep is like around the league management group. For all we know Yakupov is worse than Raffi Torres when it comes to the thought of having him on your roster.
